What does Jupiter mean in a birth chart? Jupiter shows where you grow by saying yes: where faith, generosity and opportunity come most easily, and where you are most tempted to overdo it. Its sign describes how you trust life, its house shows the area where doors open, and its aspects show what your optimism has to negotiate with.
Jupiter moves fast enough that its sign is almost a birth-year marker. It spends about a year in each sign, so people born twelve months apart usually have different Jupiter signs, while classmates often share one. Every date and position below comes from Astrology-API.io, the chart engine behind our reports (tropical zodiac, geocentric apparent positions, Placidus houses, mean node), queried for this page. The orbs are our own published site rule. Where the astrology is interpretation rather than astronomy, we say so.

How to use this page. Find your Jupiter sign in the dates table inside each sign section. Dates are in UT, so if you were born within a day of a change, check your chart. Your Jupiter house needs an accurate birth time (why). Then read the aspects, your Jupiter return timing and the FAQ.
Four things that change how Jupiter works in your chart:
- Essential dignity. Jupiter is at home in Sagittarius and Pisces, exalted in Cancer, in detriment in Gemini and Virgo, and in fall in Capricorn (Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.17–19; Lilly, Christian Astrology, 1647). Debility does not cancel Jupiter's generosity. It changes the currency it pays in.
- Sect. Jupiter is the benefic of the day team. In a day chart (Sun above the horizon) its gifts tend to arrive more cleanly. In a night chart Venus is the in-sect benefic and Jupiter's help can come with more strings attached (Hellenistic doctrine; Brennan, Hellenistic Astrology, 2017).
- Angularity. Jupiter near the Ascendant, IC, Descendant or MC is visible in the life: in your manner, home, partnerships or reputation. A cadent Jupiter works more quietly.
- Aspects within orb. Jupiter contacts to the Sun, Moon or an angle within 8° make its optimism personal. Contacts with Saturn or Pluto show what your faith must reckon with.
Jupiter in the signs
Your Jupiter sign describes your style of trust: what you believe will work out, how you are generous, and how you overreach. Because Jupiter changes sign about once a year, these sections also tell you which school years share your Jupiter.
What does Jupiter in Aries mean?
Jupiter in Aries means you grow by going first. Faith shows up as initiative: you believe things will work if someone starts them, and you would rather be that someone. Opportunity follows boldness. The shadow is impatience and the belief that confidence can replace preparation. The gift is courage that makes other people braver.
Ephemeris facts. Aries is Jupiter's quickest sign: it averages only 0.87 years there (225–374 days per passage), because Jupiter is closest to the Sun, and moving fastest, near this part of the zodiac. Aries also has the most retrograde re-entries: 9 of 17 complete passages between 1900 and 2100 dipped back into Pisces and returned. The most recent passage ran 10 May 2022 – 16 May 2023. During it Jupiter met Chiron at 14°27' Aries on 12 Mar 2023. The 2010–11 Aries cohort has Jupiter opposite Saturn (23 May 2010 at 27°53' Pisces; 16 Aug 2010 at 2°27' Aries; 28 Mar 2011 at 14°21' Aries; the first hit came while Jupiter was still in late Pisces). Next passage: from 21 Apr 2034.

| 2034–35 | 21 Apr 2034 – 29 Apr 2035 |
What it is like. Aries is cardinal fire ruled by Mars, and Jupiter here has the faith of a pioneer. People with this placement often describe being rewarded early for nerve: volunteering, speaking up, starting the club. That teaches them that action is lucky. Mostly it is, but they can burn through goodwill by starting more than they finish, and they may struggle to trust a process that requires waiting.
The gift is catalytic optimism. You can make a stalled group move. The work is to let generosity include follow-through. Practical step: for every new thing you start, name who will carry it once your enthusiasm moves on, even if that person is a future version of you with a calendar.
What does Jupiter in Taurus mean?
Jupiter in Taurus means abundance grows slowly and stays. You trust what you can touch: land, savings, craft, a good meal, a body that feels well. Your generosity is practical, and your luck often comes through patience and value rather than risk. The shadow is excess comfort or confusing having more with being safe.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 0.89 years in Taurus (236–376 days); 8 of 17 complete passages had a retrograde re-entry. The most recent passage (16 May 2023 – 25 May 2024) included the Jupiter–Uranus conjunction at 21°50' Taurus on 21 Apr 2024. Two Jupiter–Saturn "great conjunctions" also fell in Taurus: the 1940–41 series (8 Aug 1940 / 20 Oct 1940 / 15 Feb 1941) and 28 May 2000 at 22°43' Taurus. Next passage: from 29 Apr 2035.
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Taurus (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1940–41 | 16 May 1940 – 26 May 1941 |
| 1952–53 | 28 Apr 1952 – 9 May 1953 |
| 1964–65 | 12 Apr 1964 – 22 Apr 1965 |
| 1976–77 | 26 Mar 1976 – 23 Aug 1976 and 16 Oct 1976 – 3 Apr 1977 |
| 1988–89 | 8 Mar 1988 – 21 Jul 1988 and 30 Nov 1988 – 11 Mar 1989 |
| 1999–00 | 28 Jun 1999 – 23 Oct 1999 and 14 Feb 2000 – 30 Jun 2000 |
| 2011–12 | 4 Jun 2011 – 11 Jun 2012 |
| 2023–24 | 16 May 2023 – 25 May 2024 |
| 2035–36 | 29 Apr 2035 – 9 May 2036 |
What it is like. Taurus is fixed earth ruled by Venus, and Jupiter here expands whatever it can hold. People with this placement are often natural accumulators of skills, possessions or loyal friends, and they are generous with food, time and physical comfort. They can also be stubbornly optimistic about money ("it'll keep") or resist change because the current situation feels good enough.
The gift is wealth in its old sense: well-being built over time. The work is to keep abundance circulating. Practical step: once a quarter, give away, sell or use something you have been keeping "for one day". Jupiter in Taurus grows when resources move.
What does Jupiter in Gemini mean?
Jupiter in Gemini means your growth comes from curiosity, conversation and connecting ideas. This is Jupiter in detriment, the sign opposite its home in Sagittarius. The big picture breaks into many smaller pictures. You learn fast and widely, and opportunities arrive through talk, travel and networks. The shadow is collecting facts in place of meaning.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 0.94 years in Gemini (273–380 days); 7 of 17 complete passages had a retrograde re-entry. The most recent passage ran 25 May 2024 – 9 Jun 2025, and it turned retrograde on 9 Oct 2024 at 21°20' Gemini. The 2000–01 Gemini cohort has Jupiter opposite Pluto (4 Sep 2000 at 10°13' Gemini; 13 Oct 2000 at 10°55' Gemini; 6 May 2001 at 14°40' Gemini). Next passage: from 9 May 2036, with a Jupiter–Chiron conjunction on 22 Jul 2036.
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Gemini (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1941–42 | 26 May 1941 – 10 Jun 1942 |
| 1953–54 | 9 May 1953 – 24 May 1954 |
| 1965–66 | 22 Apr 1965 – 21 Sep 1965 and 17 Nov 1965 – 5 May 1966 |
| 1976–78 | 23 Aug 1976 – 16 Oct 1976 and 3 Apr 1977 – 20 Aug 1977 and 30 Dec 1977 – 12 Apr 1978 |
| 1988–89 | 21 Jul 1988 – 30 Nov 1988 and 11 Mar 1989 – 30 Jul 1989 |
| 2000–01 | 30 Jun 2000 – 13 Jul 2001 |
| 2012–13 | 11 Jun 2012 – 26 Jun 2013 |
| 2024–25 | 25 May 2024 – 9 Jun 2025 |
| 2036–37 | 9 May 2036 – 24 May 2037 |
What it is like. Detriment means Jupiter's need for a single, meaningful story has to work in Gemini's language of options and comparisons. Lived, that looks like a person who can argue every side, teach anything they learned last week and connect people brilliantly, but who may feel spiritually restless or allergic to commitment to one worldview. Many people with this placement say their faith is in learning itself.
The gift is translation: making complicated things accessible, which suits teachers, journalists, salespeople and writers. The work is depth over breadth. Practical step: choose one subject a year to study properly, with a reading list and an end point, and let the rest stay hobbies.
What does Jupiter in Cancer mean?
Jupiter in Cancer means generosity flows through care, family and belonging. This is Jupiter's exaltation (traditionally strongest at 15° Cancer). You feel lucky when you are needed and nourished, and you grow by building homes, families and communities that hold people. The shadow is smothering or protecting people from growth.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 1.02 years in Cancer (323–386 days), and only 4 of 17 complete passages had a retrograde re-entry. Jupiter has just left Cancer: its most recent passage ran 9 Jun 2025 – 30 Jun 2026. The 2013–14 Cancer cohort has Jupiter opposite Pluto (7 Aug 2013 at 9°26' Cancer; 31 Jan 2014 at 12°17' Cancer; 20 Apr 2014 at 13°34' Cancer). The 1989–90 cohort has Jupiter opposite both Saturn and Neptune. Next passage: from 24 May 2037, bringing a Jupiter–Uranus conjunction (8 Sep 2037 / 19 Feb 2038 / 30 Mar 2038).
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Cancer (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1942–43 | 10 Jun 1942 – 30 Jun 1943 |
| 1954–55 | 24 May 1954 – 13 Jun 1955 |
| 1965–67 | 21 Sep 1965 – 17 Nov 1965 and 5 May 1966 – 27 Sep 1966 and 16 Jan 1967 – 23 May 1967 |
| 1977–79 | 20 Aug 1977 – 30 Dec 1977 and 12 Apr 1978 – 5 Sep 1978 and 28 Feb 1979 – 20 Apr 1979 |
| 1989–90 | 30 Jul 1989 – 18 Aug 1990 |
| 2001–02 | 13 Jul 2001 – 1 Aug 2002 |
| 2013–14 | 26 Jun 2013 – 16 Jul 2014 |
| 2025–26 | 9 Jun 2025 – 30 Jun 2026 |
| 2037–38 | 24 May 2037 – 12 Jun 2038 |
What it is like. In its exaltation Jupiter is honoured the way a guest of honour is honoured: it does its best work in a home that welcomes it. People with Jupiter in Cancer often grow up in, or create, households that feel like a clan. They are the ones who feed people, remember birthdays and turn colleagues into family. The shadow is a protective instinct that keeps others small, or a belief that love is proved through doing everything for someone.
The gift is emotional abundance: people feel safe to grow around you. The work is generosity with release built in. Practical step: when you help someone, also ask how they will manage without you next time.
What does Jupiter in Leo mean?
Jupiter in Leo means you grow by being seen and by making others feel seen. Faith comes through creative self-expression, play and leadership with heart. Your luck often arrives through visibility, as performer, patron, teacher or host. The shadow is inflation: needing a bigger stage than the work deserves.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter is in Leo now (20°50' Leo on 8 Oct 2026; the passage runs 30 Jun 2026 – 26 Jul 2027). It opposed Pluto at 4°26' Leo on 20 Jul 2026, so many babies born around the middle of 2026 carry Jupiter opposite Pluto. Jupiter is also opposite the North Node from late 2026 (11 Nov 2026 to 20 Apr 2027). Jupiter turns retrograde on 13 Dec 2026 at 27°01' Leo and direct on 13 Apr 2027 at 17°00' Leo. Jupiter averages 1.03 years in Leo (329–391 days). Jupiter–Pluto conjunctions fell in Leo in 1943 (1 Aug 1943) and 1955–56 (2 Nov 1955 / 8 Feb 1956 / 16 Jun 1956).
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Leo (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1943–44 | 30 Jun 1943 – 26 Jul 1944 |
| 1955–56 | 13 Jun 1955 – 17 Nov 1955 and 18 Jan 1956 – 7 Jul 1956 |
| 1966–68 | 27 Sep 1966 – 16 Jan 1967 and 23 May 1967 – 19 Oct 1967 and 27 Feb 1968 – 15 Jun 1968 |
| 1978–79 | 5 Sep 1978 – 28 Feb 1979 and 20 Apr 1979 – 29 Sep 1979 |
| 1990–91 | 18 Aug 1990 – 12 Sep 1991 |
| 2002–03 | 1 Aug 2002 – 27 Aug 2003 |
| 2014–15 | 16 Jul 2014 – 11 Aug 2015 |
| 2026–27 | 30 Jun 2026 – 26 Jul 2027 |
| 2038–39 | 12 Jun 2038 – 16 Nov 2038 and 16 Jan 2039 – 8 Jul 2039 |
What it is like. Leo is fixed fire ruled by the Sun. Jupiter here wants a life that feels like a story worth telling. People with this placement are often generous performers. They make rooms warmer, champion other people's talent and lead by example. The shadow is a self-image that needs constant confirmation, or promising more than you can deliver because the promise felt magnificent.
The gift is contagious confidence and big-heartedness. The work is to measure generosity by what other people receive, not by how it looks. Practical step: once a month, do something generous that nobody will know was you.
Where it plays out. In the 5th house the growth shows through creativity and children; in the 10th, through public reputation; in the 9th, through teaching or belief performed in public. Contacts to the Sun and the 5th house amplify or humble the fire.
Shadow and integration. The trap is needing applause to feel blessed and confusing volume with virtue. Integration is radiance with a spine: you can shine without everyone else having to dim. When you catch yourself promising a grand gesture, ask what smaller, honest gift would still be generous.
How it tends to show up: growth through creative risk, performance or public generosity; faith that returns when you take centre stage for a real cause; mentors who enlarge your sense of worth; and pride that needs warmth behind it. A practical move: one finished offering beats three announced ones.
What does Jupiter in Virgo mean?
Jupiter in Virgo means growth through useful detail, skill and service. This is Jupiter in detriment: the planet of the big picture working in the sign of the fine print. Your faith is in improvement. Things get better when someone fixes them properly. The shadow is anxious perfectionism or moralising about small things.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 1.08 years in Virgo (386–395 days). Virgo and Libra are its two slowest signs, because Jupiter is farthest from the Sun in this part of its orbit. The 1968 Virgo cohort carries the Jupiter–Pluto conjunction (23°40' Virgo on 13 Oct 1968). The 2015–16 cohort has Jupiter opposite Chiron (3 Nov 2015 to 13 Aug 2016) and Neptune. The most recent passage ran 11 Aug 2015 – 9 Sep 2016. Next: from 26 Jul 2027.
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Virgo (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1944–45 | 26 Jul 1944 – 25 Aug 1945 |
| 1955–57 | 17 Nov 1955 – 18 Jan 1956 and 7 Jul 1956 – 13 Dec 1956 and 19 Feb 1957 – 7 Aug 1957 |
| 1967–69 | 19 Oct 1967 – 27 Feb 1968 and 15 Jun 1968 – 15 Nov 1968 and 30 Mar 1969 – 15 Jul 1969 |
| 1979–80 | 29 Sep 1979 – 27 Oct 1980 |
| 1991–92 | 12 Sep 1991 – 10 Oct 1992 |
| 2003–04 | 27 Aug 2003 – 25 Sep 2004 |
| 2015–16 | 11 Aug 2015 – 9 Sep 2016 |
| 2027–28 | 26 Jul 2027 – 24 Aug 2028 |
| 2038–40 | 16 Nov 2038 – 16 Jan 2039 and 8 Jul 2039 – 12 Dec 2039 and 20 Feb 2040 – 5 Aug 2040 |
What it is like. Virgo is mutable earth ruled by Mercury, and Jupiter here grows through competence. People with this placement are often generous with practical help. They will fix your CV, debug your code or reorganise your kitchen and feel lucky doing it. The tension of detriment shows as difficulty seeing the forest for the trees, or a belief that you have to be perfect before you deserve anything good.
The gift is skilled service that genuinely improves lives: healthcare, editing, engineering and craft. The work is to let good enough be generous enough. Practical step: before refining something further, ask who is waiting for it and whether a version now helps them more than a perfect version later.
Where it plays out. In the 6th house the growth shows in work and health; in the 9th, study filtered through detail; in the 2nd, income from skill. Mercury's aspects sharpen or scatter the Virgo lens.
Shadow and integration. The pattern to watch is moralising productivity and calling burnout "service". Ask which details actually serve life. When you can't stop editing, ask what fear of chaos the perfectionism is paying off.
How it tends to show up: growth through apprenticeships, qualifications and craft mastery; faith restored when a system finally works in practice; tension between wanting a big life and needing a clean desk; and service roles that expand once standards are met. A practical move: define "done" before you define "perfect".
What does Jupiter in Libra mean?
Jupiter in Libra means you grow through partnership, fairness and grace. Opportunities come through other people, especially collaborators, clients and spouses. Your faith is in balance and justice. The shadow is people-pleasing or believing that a perfect partner will deliver the expansion you have to create yourself.
Ephemeris facts. Libra is Jupiter's slowest sign: an average of 1.08 years (396–399 days). Libra has hosted several major cycles. Jupiter and Saturn met here 3 times in 1980–81 (31 Dec 1980 / 4 Mar 1981 / 24 Jul 1981). Jupiter met Pluto at 24°53' Libra on 2 Nov 1981, and Uranus in 1968–69 (11 Dec 1968 / 11 Mar 1969 / 20 Jul 1969). The next great conjunction also falls in Libra (31 Oct 2040 at 17°56' Libra). The most recent passage ran 9 Sep 2016 – 10 Oct 2017. Next: from 24 Aug 2028.
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Libra (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1945–46 | 25 Aug 1945 – 25 Sep 1946 |
| 1956–58 | 13 Dec 1956 – 19 Feb 1957 and 7 Aug 1957 – 13 Jan 1958 and 20 Mar 1958 – 7 Sep 1958 |
| 1968–70 | 15 Nov 1968 – 30 Mar 1969 and 15 Jul 1969 – 16 Dec 1969 and 30 Apr 1970 – 15 Aug 1970 |
| 1980–81 | 27 Oct 1980 – 27 Nov 1981 |
| 1992–93 | 10 Oct 1992 – 10 Nov 1993 |
| 2004–05 | 25 Sep 2004 – 26 Oct 2005 |
| 2016–17 | 9 Sep 2016 – 10 Oct 2017 |
| 2028–29 | 24 Aug 2028 – 24 Sep 2029 |
| 2039–41 | 12 Dec 2039 – 20 Feb 2040 and 5 Aug 2040 – 11 Jan 2041 and 21 Mar 2041 – 6 Sep 2041 |
What it is like. Libra is cardinal air ruled by Venus, and Jupiter here believes in relationship as a path. People with this placement are often natural diplomats, mediators or hosts who make things fair and pleasant. Their luck tends to come through introductions and alliances. The shadow is outsourcing faith: waiting for the right partner, client or mentor before committing to your own direction.
The gift is generous fairness: you raise the standard of how people treat each other. The work is to be a whole person in a partnership rather than half of one. Practical step: alongside every shared goal, keep one goal that is only yours.
What does Jupiter in Scorpio mean?
Jupiter in Scorpio means you grow by going deep. Faith comes through what has been tested: crisis, intimacy, research and other people's resources. Opportunities often arrive through investment, inheritance, healing or investigation. The shadow is obsession, or believing that intensity is the same as truth.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 1.07 years in Scorpio (385–394 days). The 1994 Scorpio cohort carries the Jupiter–Pluto conjunction (28°26' Scorpio on 2 Dec 1994). The 1958 cohort has Jupiter conjunct Neptune (3°18' Scorpio on 24 Sep 1958). Jupiter opposed Saturn from Scorpio in 1969–70 and will again in 2029–30 (exact with Jupiter at 18°48' Scorpio and 25°08' Scorpio). The most recent passage ran 10 Oct 2017 – 8 Nov 2018. Next: from 24 Sep 2029.
| Passage | Dates Jupiter was in Scorpio (UT) |
|---|---|
| 1946–47 | 25 Sep 1946 – 24 Oct 1947 |
| 1958–59 | 13 Jan 1958 – 20 Mar 1958 and 7 Sep 1958 – 10 Feb 1959 and 24 Apr 1959 – 5 Oct 1959 |
| 1969–71 | 16 Dec 1969 – 30 Apr 1970 and 15 Aug 1970 – 14 Jan 1971 and 5 Jun 1971 – 11 Sep 1971 |
| 1981–82 | 27 Nov 1981 – 26 Dec 1982 |
| 1993–94 | 10 Nov 1993 – 9 Dec 1994 |
| 2005–06 | 26 Oct 2005 – 24 Nov 2006 |
| 2017–18 | 10 Oct 2017 – 8 Nov 2018 |
| 2029–30 | 24 Sep 2029 – 22 Oct 2030 |
What it is like. Scorpio is fixed water ruled by Mars (and Pluto in modern astrology). Jupiter here is generous with depth rather than breadth. People with this placement are often the friend you call in a real crisis, the investor who sees value others miss, or the researcher who will not stop at the first answer. They can also be secretive about their own needs, and inclined to see hidden motives where there are none.
The gift is transformative generosity: helping people through endings and rebuilds. The work is to let faith include lightness. Practical step: notice when you go deep by reflex, and ask whether this situation needs depth or just kindness.
What does Jupiter in Sagittarius mean?
Jupiter in Sagittarius means Jupiter at home: faith, exploration and meaning come naturally. You grow through travel, study, teaching and belief, and your optimism is infectious. Doors open when you follow the bigger question. The shadow is preaching, over-promising or chasing the horizon to avoid the present.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 1.04 years in Sagittarius (353–390 days). Its 2007 passage carried the Jupiter–Pluto conjunction (28°24' Sagittarius on 11 Dec 2007). The 1983 passage brought the Jupiter–Uranus conjunction (18 Feb 1983 / 14 May 1983 / 25 Sep 1983), and the 1971 passage the Jupiter–Neptune conjunction (1 Feb 1971 / 22 May 1971 / 16 Sep 1971). The most recent passage ran 8 Nov 2018 – 2 Dec 2019. Next: from 22 Oct 2030, with Jupiter opposite Saturn again in 2030–31.

What it is like. In its own fire sign Jupiter is generous, adventurous and philosophical. People with this placement often credit a teacher, a journey or a faith tradition with changing their lives, and they want to pass that on. They are good at inspiring people and less good at details or listening to doubt. The risk is a belief system that has stopped asking questions.
The gift is meaning-making that others can use: teaching, publishing, law, ministry and guiding. The work is to keep curiosity alive inside conviction. Practical step: spend time each year with people who believe something different, and listen until you can state their view to their satisfaction.
Is Jupiter in Capricorn lucky, and why is it called weak?
Jupiter in Capricorn is not unlucky. Its luck is earned, and it compounds. This is Jupiter's fall (traditionally at 15° Capricorn), in Saturn's sign: expansion meets limits. That is why it is called "weak". Growth comes through structure, responsibility and long-term plans rather than windfalls. The reward is achievement that lasts.
Ephemeris facts. The last time Jupiter was in Capricorn was 2 Dec 2019 – 19 Dec 2020. That passage carried a triple Jupiter–Pluto conjunction in 2020 (5 Apr 2020 at 24°53' Capricorn; 30 Jun 2020 at 24°07' Capricorn; 12 Nov 2020 at 22°52' Capricorn), so most Jupiter-in-Capricorn babies of 2020 also have Jupiter conjunct Pluto. Jupiter met Saturn in Capricorn on 19 Feb 1961 at 25°12' Capricorn, and met Neptune there in 1984 and 1997 (19 Jan 1984; 9 Jan 1997). Jupiter averages 0.99 years in Capricorn (304–384 days); 6 of 17 complete passages had a retrograde re-entry. Next: from 15 Nov 2031.

What it is like. Fall means Jupiter has to work in a sign whose instincts (caution, hierarchy, scarcity of time) run against its own. Lived, Jupiter in Capricorn often looks like someone who distrusts easy luck and believes in earned success. They may have grown up with conservative or achievement-focused values, and they grow by building institutions, careers and reputations brick by brick. The shadow is cynicism, or generosity that comes with conditions.
The gift is pragmatic vision: making big ideas real within budget and on time. The work is to let some good things be free. Practical step: accept one offer, compliment or piece of luck each week without immediately working out what you owe for it.
Jupiter in Capricorn: common questions
- Is Jupiter in Capricorn a good placement? Yes for long-term, structured success. It is less good at spontaneous luck. Day charts and good aspects from Saturn (its dispositor) strengthen it.
- What happens when Jupiter transits Capricorn? Collectively, growth gets channelled into institutions, regulation and long-range planning. Personally, it depends on which of your houses Capricorn occupies. For 2026 itself: Jupiter was in Cancer, opposite Capricorn, during 9 Jun 2025 – 30 Jun 2026, and it is in Leo for 30 Jun 2026 – 26 Jul 2027. Your timing report shows what that means for your chart.
What does Jupiter in Aquarius mean?
Jupiter in Aquarius means you grow through ideas, networks and causes larger than yourself. Faith takes a progressive or principled form: you believe the future can be designed better, and opportunities come through groups, technology and unusual friendships. The shadow is loving humanity more than the humans in front of you.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 0.95 years in Aquarius (289–379 days). Its 2020–21 passage opened with the Jupiter–Saturn great conjunction at 0°29' Aquarius on 21 Dec 2020, the first in an air sign since the 1980–81 Libra series. The 1997 cohort has Jupiter conjunct Uranus (16 Feb 1997). The 2009 cohort has a triple conjunction of Jupiter with Neptune and Chiron (27 May 2009 / 10 Jul 2009 / 21 Dec 2009). The next passage, from 12 Apr 2032, brings a Jupiter–Pluto conjunction (4 Feb 2033).

What it is like. Aquarius is fixed air, traditionally ruled by Saturn and in modern astrology by Uranus. Jupiter here is generous with ideas and access. People with this placement often build communities, platforms or movements, and they feel lucky when they are part of something forward-looking. The shadow is detachment, or a dogmatic attachment to being unconventional.
The gift is visionary organising. The work is warmth at human scale. Practical step: for every cause you support, do one concrete thing for one specific person this month.
What does Jupiter in Pisces mean?
Jupiter in Pisces means faith, compassion and imagination are boundless and are your path to growth. This is one of Jupiter's traditional homes. You trust intuition and grace, help instinctively, and often find meaning in art, spirituality or service to people who are suffering. The shadow is boundarylessness, or rescuing others at your own expense.
Ephemeris facts. Jupiter averages 0.91 years in Pisces (261–375 days); 7 of 17 complete passages had a retrograde re-entry. The most recent passage (13 May 2021 – 20 Dec 2022, in three stretches) included the Jupiter–Neptune conjunction at 23°59' Pisces on 12 Apr 2022. Jupiter met Chiron in Pisces in 1962 (28 May 1962 / 21 Aug 1962 / 17 Dec 1962), and Uranus at the Pisces–Aries boundary in 2010–11 (8 Jun 2010 / 19 Sep 2010 / 4 Jan 2011). Next: from 14 Apr 2033.

| 2021–22 | 13 May 2021 – 28 Jul 2021 and 29 Dec 2021 – 10 May 2022 and 28 Oct 2022 – 20 Dec 2022 |
| 2033–34 | 14 Apr 2033 – 12 Sep 2033 and 1 Dec 2033 – 21 Apr 2034 |
What it is like. Pisces is mutable water, traditionally ruled by Jupiter (and by Neptune in modern astrology). Jupiter here is generous without counting. People with this placement are often drawn to healing, the arts, spiritual practice or charitable work, and they experience luck as grace: help arriving when it is needed. The risk is a belief that things will work out without boundaries, budgets or a plan.
The gift is compassion with real reach. The work is boundaries that protect your generosity. Practical step: decide in advance how much time, money or energy you can give each month, and give it freely within that limit.
Jupiter in the houses
What does Jupiter's house mean? The house shows the area of life where you find it easiest to grow, trust and receive: where help arrives, where you are generous, and where you are most likely to overextend. Like every house placement it depends on your birth time, because Jupiter passes through all twelve houses each day.
Why the houses are not equal. As the Earth turns, Jupiter rises, culminates, sets and passes under the Earth once a day, but Placidus houses divide that day unevenly. Jupiter in Leo (where it is on 8 Oct 2026, at 20°50' Leo) sits north of the celestial equator, so at northern latitudes it spends longer above the horizon than below, and in the southern hemisphere the reverse. Placidus houses track that time, which is why the same birth minute can put Jupiter in different houses in different cities. If your birth time is approximate, read the neighbouring house too.
Where Jupiter was in the sky follows from the house: in the 1st it was about to rise; in the 12th it had just risen; in the 10th it was climbing to the Midheaven; in the 9th it had just culminated; in the 7th it was about to set; in the 4th it was approaching the lowest point under the Earth.
What does Jupiter in the 1st house mean?
Jupiter in the 1st house means optimism and generosity are written on your surface. Jupiter was rising when you were born, so people tend to meet your warmth, humour and confidence first. Opportunities often come simply because you show up and people like you. The shadow is overconfidence, overcommitment, or assuming that things will work out because they usually have.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 1st house was below the eastern horizon at birth and rose in the hours that followed. The 1st is an angular house, and in Vedic astrology Jupiter gains directional strength (dig bala) here, which makes this one of the classic "strong Jupiter" positions in both traditions.
What it is like. The 1st house is your body, manner and instinctive approach to life. Jupiter here gives a big presence: expansive gestures, a laugh people remember, a tendency to take up space in a way others find reassuring rather than threatening. Many people with this placement were treated as lucky or "golden" as children, which is a gift and a pressure. Traditional texts describe a generous build, and modern astrologers note a taste for excess. Neither is a prediction about your body.
The gift is that you make people feel possibility is real. The work is to let your optimism survive bad news. Practical step: before saying yes, ask what you would need to say no to in order to deliver it well.
Jupiter in the 1st house: common questions
- Is Jupiter in the 1st house good or bad? Generally good: it is a protective, confident placement, especially in a day chart or in Sagittarius, Pisces or Cancer. The cost is excess: overpromising, overeating or overextending.
- What does Jupiter in the 1st house mean for meeting a spouse? In Vedic astrology Jupiter casts a full aspect on the 7th house from the 1st, so it is traditionally read as protecting partnership and favouring a wise or generous spouse. In Western terms it suggests you attract partners through openness. It does not set a date.
- What do Jupiter and Saturn in the 1st house mean? Confidence and caution share the front door. You come across as both warm and serious, and growth happens through measured risks. If the two are within 6° of each other, you were born near a great conjunction (the most recent were 28 May 2000 and 21 Dec 2020).
- Which celebrities have Jupiter in the 1st house? Six well-known people with Rodden AA birth data (from a birth certificate or similar birth record) were born with Jupiter in the 1st house (Placidus houses), as calculated by our chart engine from their recorded birth times: Queen Elizabeth II, Marlon Brando, Whitney Houston, Dustin Hoffman, Agatha Christie and Marie Curie. Birth data from Astro-Databank (astro.com), Rodden rating AA. Houses depend on the exact birth time, so a time a few minutes out can move a planet into a neighbouring house.
What does Jupiter in the 2nd house mean?
Jupiter in the 2nd house means money, resources and self-worth tend to grow. You usually believe there will be enough, and that belief often makes it true, through generosity, good judgement of value and a talent for attracting resources. The shadow is spending as fast as you earn, or measuring your worth by what you own.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 2nd house had not yet risen at birth. It still had the 1st house to cross before reaching the Ascendant. In Vedic astrology Jupiter is the natural significator of wealth, so its presence in the house of income is traditionally prized.
What it is like. The 2nd house covers earnings, possessions, skills you can sell and the felt sense of security. Jupiter here often brings ease with money. That might be an income that grows with age or a family culture of generosity, but just as often it is a relaxed relationship with financial risk. People with this placement are frequently generous hosts and gift-givers, and they value quality. The challenge is that easy money can make discipline optional.
The gift is abundance thinking that actually produces resources. The work is stewardship. Practical step: give every windfall three destinations (spend, save and give) before it arrives.
Jupiter in the 2nd house: common questions
- What if Jupiter is in the 2nd house? It is one of the classic wealth signatures: resources tend to expand over time, especially if Jupiter is dignified or well aspected. Watch for overspending and over-valuing possessions.
- What do Jupiter and Saturn in the 2nd house mean? Expansion and caution share your finances: you can build wealth steadily if Jupiter's confidence funds Saturn's long-term plans, and you may swing between generosity and frugality until the two cooperate.
- Is Jupiter in the 2nd house the best house for wealth? It is one of several. Tradition also points to Jupiter in the 11th (gains) and 10th (career success).
What does Jupiter in the 3rd house mean?
Jupiter in the 3rd house means your growth comes through learning, speaking and everyday connections. You are often an enthusiastic communicator, generous with information, and lucky in your local world: siblings, neighbours, short trips and early schooling. The shadow is talking more than listening, or skimming many subjects without depth.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 3rd house had recently passed the lowest point of the chart (the IC). Hellenistic astrology called the 3rd the house of the Goddess (the Moon's joy), and some Vedic texts count it among Jupiter's less comfortable houses, because Jupiter's philosophy has to work at the scale of everyday conversation.
What it is like. People with Jupiter in the 3rd often grow up in talkative households or with a sibling who opened doors for them. They become teachers, writers, connectors and storytellers, the kind of person who always has an article to send you. The tension is between broadcasting and learning: Jupiter can turn every conversation into a lecture.
The gift is making knowledge generous. The work is curiosity about people, not just ideas. Practical step: in conversations this week, ask two follow-up questions before offering your view.
What does Jupiter in the 4th house mean?
Jupiter in the 4th house means home and family are your source of faith. You may have grown up in a warm, large or culturally rich household, or you build one later. Your sense of security comes from roots, and you are generous with your home. The shadow is over-investing in the house, or idealising family.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 4th house was approaching the IC, the lowest point of the chart, at birth. The 4th is an angular house, so this is a prominent Jupiter even though it was below the horizon.
What it is like. The 4th house covers home, family, ancestry, private life and one parent. Jupiter here often describes a parent who was generous, expansive or religious, or a home that was always full of people. As adults, people with this placement often want space: a big kitchen, land, a house that holds more than one generation. Later life is traditionally considered fortunate with Jupiter here, as the 4th describes "the end of the matter". The shadow is an inflated family myth that makes ordinary difficulties hard to admit.
The gift is creating a home that feels like a refuge for others. The work is to let the private self grow, not just the property. Practical step: keep one room or ritual for reflection rather than hosting.
What the house adds. Jupiter wants more meaning and more yes; the 4th wants a foundation. This is fortune that wants a hearth, not automatic wealth, and it can bless family life or inflate the family myth until someone has to tell the truth. The sign on your IC and the ruler of the 4th describe who really holds the keys. Water-sign charts feel this as emotional kinship; earth-sign charts as bricks and deeds.
Shadow and integration. The trap is confusing more space or more relatives with safety. When family loyalty asks you to give up your own growth, ask whose expansion you are serving.
How it tends to show up: a home that works as sanctuary, classroom or revolving door for relatives; luck through property, parents or returning to your origins; beliefs inherited from the household that you keep or rewrite; and travel that still circles back to building a better nest. A practical move: define "enough home" before the next expansion.
What does Jupiter in the 5th house mean?
Jupiter in the 5th house means joy, creativity and romance are where you expand. You tend to love play, art, children and pleasure, and you are generous with your enthusiasm. Creative risks often pay off. The shadow is overindulgence, gambling, or treating romance as entertainment.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 5th house was below the western horizon at birth, still on its way down to its lowest point. In Vedic astrology Jupiter is the natural significator of children, and a classical maxim warns that a significator placed in its own house can overload it (karako bhava nashaya). So tradition reads Jupiter in the 5th as abundant but in need of moderation.
What it is like. The 5th covers creative self-expression, romance, children, hobbies and speculation. People with this placement are often big-hearted creatives, devoted parents, mentors or teachers who make learning fun. Romance tends to be warm and generous. The risk is chasing the next high, overspending on fun, or taking risks because they feel like fate.
The gift is joy that is contagious. The work is play with limits. Practical step: set a budget for pleasure and speculation, and enjoy it fully within that budget.
What does Jupiter in the 6th house mean?
Jupiter in the 6th house means growth through work, routine and service. You often find meaning in being useful, enjoy a busy workday, and attract supportive colleagues. Health routines can be a source of real well-being. The shadow is taking on too much, or excess in food and habits.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 6th house had set (crossed the Descendant) in the hours before birth. Hellenistic astrology called the 6th the house of Bad Fortune, a cadent place where benefics are said to give modest help rather than big gifts.
What it is like. The 6th covers daily work, employees, health maintenance, pets and service. Jupiter here often looks like a cheerful workaholic, a supportive manager, or someone drawn to healing professions. People with this placement may feel lucky in jobs more than in careers: good working conditions, kind teams, useful skills. The traditional health warning with Jupiter is excess, not deficiency.
The gift is making work humane. The work is to stop saying yes to every task. Practical step: list your commitments and drop the one that serves nobody's growth, including yours.
What does Jupiter in the 7th house mean?
Jupiter in the 7th house means partnership is where you grow. You tend to attract generous, worldly or wise partners and collaborators, and you are often generous in relationships. Contracts, clients and marriage can bring opportunity. The shadow is idealising partners, or expecting a relationship to supply meaning you have not built yourself.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 7th house was low in the west at birth and set in the hours that followed. This is an angular house, so partnership becomes a visible arena for Jupiter.
What it is like. The 7th covers marriage, business partners, open rivals and contracts. People with this placement often meet partners through travel, study or faith communities, or partners from different backgrounds. They are natural negotiators and advocates. The risk is over-trust, or a series of relationships that start large and lose shape.
The gift is relationships that enlarge both people. The work is choosing partners for character, not promise. Practical step: before committing, ask what the relationship looks like on an ordinary Tuesday.
Jupiter and the 7th house: common questions
- When does Jupiter aspect the 7th house? In Vedic astrology Jupiter casts full aspects to the 5th, 7th and 9th houses counted from itself. So Jupiter in the 1st, 3rd or 11th house aspects your 7th, and Jupiter in the 7th occupies it. All are traditionally read as protective for partnership. In Western astrology "aspect" means an angle to a planet or angle, so the comparable question is whether Jupiter aspects your Descendant or 7th-house ruler within 8°.
- Does Jupiter in the 7th house guarantee a good marriage? No placement guarantees an outcome. It describes a generous, growth-oriented approach to partnership, and it favours partners who expand your world.
What does Jupiter in the 8th house mean?
Jupiter in the 8th house means you grow through depth: shared resources, intimacy and transformation. Help often comes through other people's money, such as investment, inheritance, a partner's income or institutional support. Crises tend to deepen your faith rather than destroy it. The shadow is debt, or excess in merging.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 8th house was in the western half of the sky at birth, heading toward the horizon.
What it is like. The 8th covers joint finances, taxes, debt, inheritance, sex and endings. People with Jupiter here are often comfortable with topics others avoid, such as death, money and desire. They can thrive in finance, insurance, therapy or research. Their optimism is tested by loss, and it often deepens through it. The risk is easy credit, or trusting someone else's resources too readily.
The gift is resilience and generosity in hard moments. The work is clean agreements. Practical step: write down shared financial arrangements, even with people you trust completely.
What does Jupiter in the 9th house mean, and is it lucky?
Jupiter in the 9th house means Jupiter is in its natural house: faith, higher learning and travel expand your life. Yes, it is traditionally one of the luckiest Jupiter placements. You grow through study, teaching, foreign cultures, publishing and philosophy, and mentors tend to appear. The shadow is dogma or restless searching.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 9th house had culminated (crossed the Midheaven) in the hours before birth. This is one of the two sectors in which Michel Gauquelin (Les hommes et les astres, 1960) reported Jupiter appearing more often for actors and politicians. Those results have been disputed and not reliably replicated, so treat them as history rather than proof.
What it is like. The 9th covers beliefs, higher education, law, religion, long journeys and publishing. People with this placement often credit a teacher, a journey abroad or a book with changing their lives. They become teachers, lawyers, writers, clergy, guides and lifelong students. The shadow is certainty: a philosophy that has stopped growing, or always looking for the next horizon instead of applying what you know.
The gift is wisdom that travels well. The work is humility. Practical step: teach something you know, then study something you do not.
Lived, not just wished for. With Jupiter in its own house, growth through travel, study and the search for meaning is usually something you actually do, not just something you hope for: the courses get taken and the journeys happen.
Jupiter in the 9th house: common questions
- Is Jupiter in the 9th house lucky? Traditionally very: it is the house of fortune in Vedic astrology and Jupiter's natural house in the modern Western scheme.
- What does Jupiter in the 9th house mean for a husband? In Vedic astrology Jupiter is the significator of the husband in a woman's chart, and the 9th is the house of dharma and fortune. So this is traditionally read as a principled, educated or spiritually minded spouse. Modern astrology reads it more broadly, as partners who share your beliefs or broaden them.
- What does Jupiter in Leo in the 9th house mean? A generous, theatrical teacher or traveller: faith expressed through creativity and leadership. People born 16 Jul 2014 – 11 Aug 2015, and those born 30 Jun 2026 – 26 Jul 2027, have Jupiter in Leo; the house needs your birth time.
What does Jupiter in the 10th house mean?
Jupiter in the 10th house means career and reputation are where you grow. Jupiter was climbing to the top of the sky at birth, so public success, recognition and leadership roles come more easily. You are often seen as capable and principled. The shadow is overreaching ambition, or a reputation that outruns your substance.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 10th house culminated in the hours after birth. This is the most elevated position Jupiter can hold, and tradition treats an elevated benefic as one of the strongest testimonies in a chart.
What it is like. The 10th covers vocation, status, authority figures and public life. People with this placement often rise in institutions, become teachers, judges, executives or public figures, and enjoy mentoring others. They may have had a parent who modelled success or moral authority. The risk is identifying entirely with the role, or taking on more visibility than the work can support.
The gift is leadership that benefits others. The work is substance over stature. Practical step: each year, name one achievement you are proud of that nobody publicly credited.
What does Jupiter in the 11th house mean?
Jupiter in the 11th house means friends, networks and long-term hopes bring growth. This is Jupiter's joy in Hellenistic astrology, the house of Good Spirit. Allies, patrons and communities support you, and your goals tend to expand as you pursue them. The shadow is spreading yourself across too many groups.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 11th house had risen some hours before birth and was climbing toward the Midheaven. In the Hellenistic doctrine of planetary joys, Jupiter rejoices in the 11th (Brennan, Hellenistic Astrology, 2017). In Vedic astrology the 11th is the house of gains.
What it is like. The 11th covers friendships, networks, groups, patrons and hopes for the future. People with Jupiter here often have generous, influential friends and a talent for building communities. Opportunities come through who they know. The risk is relying on networks rather than skills, or saying yes to every invitation.
The gift is a community that lifts everyone in it. The work is depth in a few friendships. Practical step: invest regular time in three relationships that would survive any change in your status.
What does Jupiter in the 12th house mean?
Jupiter in the 12th house means your faith and generosity work behind the scenes. You may feel protected in hidden ways, find meaning in solitude, spirituality or service, and help people quietly. The traditional phrase is a "guardian angel". The shadow is escapism, or giving so much privately that you neglect your own visible life.
Where it was in the sky. Jupiter in the 12th house rose in the hours before birth. This is the other Gauquelin sector, with the same caveat as the 9th.
What it is like. The 12th covers retreat, institutions (hospitals, monasteries, archives), the unconscious and self-undoing. People with Jupiter here often have rich inner lives and spiritual or artistic depth, and they work well in healing, research or charitable settings. They may feel luck arrives in crises, through unexpected help. The risk is hiding: choosing invisible roles out of fear rather than vocation.
The gift is compassion that does not need an audience. The work is to let your inner abundance become visible. Practical step: share one piece of private work, insight or kindness publicly each season.
Jupiter aspects in the birth chart
What do Jupiter aspects mean? An aspect links Jupiter's urge to grow, trust and find meaning to another planet's function. Conjunctions amplify the other planet; trines and sextiles let it grow easily; squares and oppositions bring growth through excess, overreach or conflict. We count an aspect within 8° when the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, MC or Descendant is involved and 6° between planets, and call it "exact" only within 1°.
Where each aspect lives on this site. Aspects are covered on the hub of the faster planet. Jupiter's contacts with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are discussed on those hubs. This page covers Jupiter's aspects to Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the North Node. Each pair stays within orb of an aspect for weeks to months around the exact dates, so they mark birth cohorts. The tables list the exact dates of the conjunctions, squares and oppositions from 1960 to 2035, so you can check your birth date.
Jupiter–Pluto aspects
Jupiter and Pluto meet about every 12.53 years. These are the exact dates since 1960:
| Aspect | Years | Exact Jupiter–Pluto dates (UT) and Jupiter's position |
|---|---|---|

Jupiter square Pluto
What does Jupiter square Pluto mean in a natal chart? Jupiter square Pluto joins belief and growth to intensity; overreach and power struggles are the risks. Your appetite for growth is wired to a drive for power and transformation: you think big, push hard and are rarely satisfied with modest results. Natal or transit? Natally it describes a life where growth comes through intensity: big bets, battles over beliefs, inheritances, crises of faith, or a hunger to influence systems rather than dabble at the edges. The houses Jupiter and Pluto rule show the arenas (money and shared assets, beliefs and speech, public versus private power). As a transit, transiting Jupiter square your natal Pluto is a shorter season that can repeat when Jupiter retrogrades: a promotion with a price, a windfall with strings, an ethical test. Transiting Pluto square your natal Jupiter is a slow, long renovation of faith, education or how big you are allowed to be. Neither installs a new personality; they replay the natal story. Shadow and integration: want a larger life without needing to crush the old one, and when the pressure peaks, ask which belief is being cleared out rather than which enemy to defeat.
Is Pluto square Jupiter the same as Jupiter square Pluto? Yes. In a natal chart the order of the names doesn't matter: "Pluto square Jupiter" and "Jupiter square Pluto" are the same aspect, and both are answered here. Order only matters for transits, where the moving planet is named first.
How does Jupiter square Pluto affect wealth? It raises the stakes rather than deciding the outcome. Money tends to come and go in big moves: ambitious investments, inheritances, debt or shared assets, and fights over control of resources. It works best when growth is paired with a clear limit on risk; the houses Jupiter and Pluto rule show where money is involved. Traditionally it is a signature of large financial ambitions and large swings: Jupiter expands whatever Pluto concentrates, so people with this aspect are often drawn to finance, business, investment or institutions where money equals power, with the danger of over-leveraging or of conflicts with authorities over money.
When is the next Jupiter square Pluto? The next exact square in our chart engine's record is 1 Nov 2029 (Jupiter 8°04' Scorpio, Pluto 8°04' Aquarius).

Jupiter opposite Neptune
What does Jupiter opposite Neptune mean in a natal chart? Jupiter opposite Neptune projects ideals onto causes or people and learns discernment. The opposition pulls your appetite for growth and your imagination and longing in opposite directions, often through other people, so the task is balance rather than picking a side.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT), 1950–2040, with the signs involved: 1952: 21 Mar 1952 (Jupiter in Aries, Neptune in Libra). 1964–65: 18 Jun 1964, 3 Dec 1964, 28 Feb 1965 (Jupiter in Taurus, Neptune in Scorpio). 1977: 8 Jun 1977 (Jupiter in Gemini, Neptune in Sagittarius). 1989–90: 1 Oct 1989, 14 Nov 1989, 6 Jun 1990 (Jupiter in Cancer, Neptune in Capricorn). 2002–03: 11 Sep 2002, 16 Feb 2003, 3 Jun 2003 (Jupiter in Leo, Neptune in Aquarius). 2015: 17 Sep 2015 (Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Pisces). 2028: 28 Sep 2028 (Jupiter in Libra, Neptune in Aries). Both planets move slowly, so everyone born around these dates shares the aspect; your own chart shows how close it is for you.
Jupiter quincunx Neptune
What does Jupiter quincunx Neptune mean in a natal chart? Jupiter quincunx Neptune makes faith and wishful thinking hard to tell apart, so ideals need testing. The quincunx links your appetite for growth and your imagination and longing with nothing in common, so it asks for steady small adjustments rather than one fix.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT), 1950–2040, with the signs involved: 1951–53: 6 Mar 1951, 8 Aug 1952, 23 Sep 1952, 7 Apr 1953 (Jupiter in Pisces, Neptune in Libra; Jupiter in Taurus, Neptune in Libra). 1963–66: 6 Jun 1963, 9 Oct 1963, 17 Feb 1964, 7 Jul 1965, 25 Jan 1966, 10 Mar 1966 (Jupiter in Aries, Neptune in Scorpio; Jupiter in Gemini, Neptune in Scorpio). 1976: 20 May 1976 (Jupiter in Taurus, Neptune in Sagittarius). 1978: 3 Jul 1978 (Jupiter in Cancer, Neptune in Sagittarius). 1989–91: 12 May 1989, 31 Oct 1990, 11 Dec 1990, 6 Jul 1991 (Jupiter in Gemini, Neptune in Capricorn; Jupiter in Leo, Neptune in Capricorn). 2001–04: 15 Aug 2001, 20 Jan 2002, 1 May 2002, 16 Oct 2003, 4 Mar 2004, 9 Jul 2004 (Jupiter in Cancer, Neptune in Aquarius; Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Aquarius). 2014: 15 Aug 2014 (Jupiter in Leo, Neptune in Pisces). 2016–17: 23 Oct 2016, 17 May 2017, 5 Jul 2017 (Jupiter in Libra, Neptune in Pisces). 2027: 24 Aug 2027 (Jupiter in Virgo, Neptune in Aries). 2029: 4 Nov 2029 (Jupiter in Scorpio, Neptune in Aries). 2039–40: 23 Dec 2039, 8 Feb 2040, 4 Sep 2040 (Jupiter in Libra, Neptune in Taurus). Jupiter and the lunar nodes
What does Jupiter conjunct the North Node mean? It suggests that your direction of growth is supported: mentors, teachers or opportunities align with your life path. Jupiter on the South Node (opposite the North Node) points the other way: wisdom and generosity you already have, which you are asked to share rather than chase.
Jupiter meets the (mean) North Node about every 7.22 years, because the nodes move backward through the zodiac to meet Jupiter. The last conjunction was 27 May 2023 at 2°26' Taurus, and the next is 25 Nov 2030. Jupiter is opposite the North Node (conjunct the South Node) in late 2026 and early 2027: 11 Nov 2026 at 25°30' Leo; 1 Mar 2027 at 19°42' Leo; 20 Apr 2027 at 17°04' Leo.

Your Jupiter return
When is the Jupiter return? Your Jupiter return happens when Jupiter comes back to its natal position, between ages 11.3–12.6 in our chart engine's exact hits for 22 sample births (1 January, every fifth year, 1915–2020), then at each later pass. It marks a new cycle of growth: a year when opportunities, learning and confidence tend to expand in the areas your natal Jupiter rules.
Why the timing varies. In the 1900–2100 data Jupiter took 11.29–11.96 years to come back to the same sign. It is also retrograde 30.2% of the time, so a return can be a single exact pass or three (direct, retrograde, direct) spread across most of a year. Exactly when yours falls depends on where Jupiter was in its retrograde loop when you were born. The table gives the range of exact-hit ages across our 22 sample births, with one person's dates as an example:
| Jupiter return | Exact hits fell at these ages (22 sample births, 1915–2020) | Example: born 1 Jan 1990, exact hits (UT) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 11.3–12.6 | 6 Aug 2001 (age 11.6) |
| 2nd | 23.2–24.5 | 18 Jul 2013 (age 23.5) |
| 3rd | 35.2–35.9 | 2 Jul 2025 (age 35.5) |
| 4th | 47.1–47.8 | 16 Jun 2037 (age 47.5) |
| 5th | 59.1–59.8 | 30 May 2049 (age 59.4) |
| 6th | 70.5–71.7 | 1 Oct 2060, 14 Nov 2060 and 12 May 2061 (ages 70.8–71.4) |
| 7th | 82.4–83.7 | 26 Aug 2072, 31 Dec 2072 and 18 Apr 2073 (ages 82.7–83.3) |
Who is having a Jupiter return now? Jupiter is in Leo (20°50' Leo on 8 Oct 2026) for 30 Jun 2026 – 26 Jul 2027. So people born with Jupiter in Leo are having a return. The most recent Leo cohort, born 16 Jul 2014 – 11 Aug 2015, is having its first return (exact between ages 11.3–12.6 in our sample births); the earlier Leo passages in the Leo table are at their second to seventh returns. For exact dates in your chart, your timing report calculates them.
What it is like. The Jupiter return is the opposite of the Saturn return. Instead of testing structures, it opens doors: a new school, a move, a promotion, travel, a growing family or a new belief system. The first five returns, exact at ages 11.3–12.6, 23.2–24.5, 35.2–35.9, 47.1–47.8 and 59.1–59.8 in our sample births, often coincide with recognisable life chapters. The task is to choose which opportunity to grow, not to say yes to everything.
Jupiter retrograde
What does Jupiter retrograde mean? Jupiter appears to move backward for about 120.6 days every 398.9 days, so about 30.2% of people are born with it retrograde. Natally it suggests that faith, meaning and growth develop inwardly before they show outwardly. As a transit, it is a review period for plans, beliefs and commitments made in the previous months.
Ephemeris facts. Over 1900–2100 Jupiter completed 184 retrograde periods lasting 117.5–123.6 days. Around each station it barely moves for weeks. Recent and upcoming retrogrades:

Which signs does the 2026–27 Jupiter retrograde affect? The retrograde between 13 Dec 2026 at 27°01' Leo and 13 Apr 2027 at 17°00' Leo matters most if you have a planet or angle between those degrees of Leo, or of the other fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius), which Jupiter squares or opposes. Your timing report works out what it touches in your chart.
Natal Jupiter retrograde. Traditional astrologers read a retrograde planet as less able to deliver its promises in obvious ways. Modern astrologers read natal Jupiter retrograde as a personal, sometimes unconventional philosophy: you may distrust the beliefs you were handed, and grow by working out your own.
Vedic note: Jupiter (Guru) in sidereal astrology
This site uses the tropical zodiac. Vedic (Jyotish) astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, offset on 8 Oct 2026 by 24.23° (Lahiri ayanamsa), so Jupiter was at 26°36' Cancer sidereal while tropical Jupiter was in Leo. Your Vedic Jupiter sign is often one sign earlier than your Western one.
- Dignities. Guru rules Sagittarius and Pisces, is exalted in Cancer (deepest at 5° in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, versus 15° in the Western tradition) and debilitated in Capricorn (deepest at 5°). Jupiter is "weak" in Capricorn because Capricorn is Saturn's sign of structure and limits, opposite Cancer where Jupiter is exalted. Its expansive, trusting nature is constrained by Saturn's caution. A debilitated Jupiter can be cancelled (neecha bhanga) by other factors in the chart, so it is never judged alone.
- Special aspects. Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th houses counted from itself, in addition to the 7th aspect all planets have.
- Directional strength. Jupiter gains dig bala in the 1st house.
- Significations. Jupiter is the karaka (significator) of children, wisdom, teachers, wealth and, in a woman's chart, the husband.
- Jupiter mahadasha lasts 16 years in the Vimshottari system.
- Marriage timing. Some Jyotish practitioners, notably K. N. Rao, use a "double transit" (Jupiter and Saturn both aspecting the 7th house or its lord) as a marriage-timing indicator. We describe the technique, but we don't make predictions from it.
Jupiter FAQ
What is the luckiest Jupiter placement?
By tradition: Jupiter in Sagittarius, Pisces or Cancer (dignified), in a day chart (Jupiter is the diurnal benefic), and in the 1st, 9th, 10th or 11th house. Its joy is in the 11th, and it is strongest when angular. Luck in astrology means ease and support, and it still has to be used.
What is a strong Jupiter placement?
Jupiter in its own sign or exaltation, angular (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house), direct, and without hard aspects from Saturn or Mars. In a life it shows as optimism that turns out to be justified, mentors who appear, and resilience after setbacks.
Which house is the strongest for Jupiter?
The 1st (Vedic directional strength) and the 10th (most elevated) are the classic answers. The 11th is its joy in Hellenistic astrology, and the 9th is its natural house in the modern Western scheme.
Which house is not good for Jupiter? What are the bad houses for Jupiter?
No house is simply bad for a benefic, but tradition considers Jupiter weaker in the 6th, 8th and 12th (cadent or "dark" houses) and, in some Vedic texts, the 3rd. There it gives quieter or more internal help. Jupiter in the 5th can also overdo its own significations. See the house sections above for each.
Which house gives wealth through Jupiter?
The 2nd (income), 11th (gains), 10th (career) and 9th (fortune) are the traditional wealth houses for Jupiter, and Jupiter is the Vedic significator of wealth. No single placement guarantees money.
What part of the body does Jupiter rule?
In traditional astrology (William Lilly, Christian Astrology), Jupiter rules the liver, blood and arteries. Through Sagittarius it is linked to the hips and thighs, and through Pisces to the feet. This is traditional symbolism, not medical advice.
Which zodiac signs are ruled by Jupiter?
Sagittarius and Pisces (traditional rulership; modern astrology gives Pisces to Neptune as co-ruler). Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, in detriment in Gemini and Virgo, and in fall in Capricorn.
How long does Jupiter stay in one zodiac sign?
About a year. Calculated over 1900–2100, the average ranges from 0.87 years in Aries to 1.08 years in Libra. It takes 11.86 years on average to get back to the same sign.
Which transit of Jupiter gives marriage?
In Western astrology, transiting Jupiter over your Descendant, through your 7th house, or to your Venus or 7th-house ruler is traditionally associated with relationship opportunities. In Vedic astrology, Jupiter transiting or aspecting the 7th house (part of the "double transit" with Saturn) is used. These are traditional associations, not predictions.
Where is Jupiter square Pluto explained?
In its own section, Jupiter square Pluto, with the exact dates from our chart engine.
What Jupiter signs are lucky?
The signs where Jupiter is dignified (Sagittarius, Pisces and Cancer) are traditionally the luckiest, but every sign has its own way of expanding. Jupiter in Capricorn is not unlucky, just disciplined.
Sources and method
- Positions and dates: every astronomical figure on this page comes from Astrology-API.io v3, the chart engine behind natalblueprint.com, queried in October 2026 with our report settings: tropical zodiac, geocentric apparent positions, Placidus houses, mean lunar node, UT. Sign changes, stations and retrograde periods use its mundane-events search (1900–2100); exact aspect dates use its aspect-passages search (1900–2100 for the slower planets); today's and sidereal positions use its global-positions data. Averages and ranges are simple arithmetic on those dates. Transit-to-natal dates and ages (your Jupiter return) are exact hits from the engine's natal-transit search for sample births at 12:00 UT on 1 January of every fifth year from 1915 to 2020; an age is simply the time from that birth to the exact hit, and nothing is interpolated.
- Orbs: the site's published orb table (8° luminaries and angles, 6° other majors). This is our rule, not an astronomical measurement. See our method.
- We do not use outside astronomical tables on this page; where the engine does not supply a figure, we describe the point without a number.
- Dignities and rulerships: Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.17–19; William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647). Exaltation degree and triplicity rulers: Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum I.1.
