What does the Moon mean in a birth chart? The Moon shows your emotional needs, instincts and habits: what makes you feel safe, how you react before you think, and how you care for others and want to be cared for. Its sign describes the flavour of your feelings, its house shows where you look for comfort, and its aspects show what your feelings have to live with.
The Moon is the fastest body in the chart. It changes sign every two to three days, so two people born a few days apart can have the same Sun sign and quite different Moon signs, and it is the one placement where an accurate birth date really matters. Every date and position below comes from Astrology-API.io, the chart engine behind our reports (tropical zodiac, geocentric apparent positions, Placidus houses, mean node), queried for this page. The orbs are our own published site rule. Where the astrology is interpretation rather than astronomy, we say so.

How to use this page. Your Moon sign needs your birth date and, on days when the Moon changed sign, your birth time; each sign section lists the Moon's next three visits so you can see how quickly it moves. Your Moon house needs an accurate birth time. Then read the Moon phases, eclipses and the aspects, especially Moon–Pluto, which is the Moon aspect people search for most.
Four things that change how the Moon works in your chart:
- Essential dignity. The Moon rules Cancer, is exalted in Taurus (traditionally strongest at 3°), is in detriment in Capricorn and in fall in Scorpio (Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.17–19; Lilly, Christian Astrology, 1647). A Moon in Cancer or Taurus expresses feelings with less strain.
- Phase at birth. Being born near a New Moon, a Full Moon or a quarter changes the tone of the whole chart. See Moon phases.
- Sect. The Moon is the light of the night. In Hellenistic astrology it is the leader of the nocturnal sect, so it carries more weight in a night birth (Brennan, Hellenistic Astrology, 2017).
- Contacts with the slow planets. Because the Moon is so personal, a close aspect from Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto colours a whole emotional life. Moon–Pluto is the most searched of these; see Moon–Pluto.
The Moon in the signs
Your Moon sign describes how you feel and what you need to feel safe. It is often a better guide than the Sun sign to how someone behaves at home, under stress or in a close relationship. Because the Moon spends almost exactly the same time in every sign, each Moon sign is equally common; what differs from sign to sign is what else the Moon meets there. Each section below gives this year's New and Full Moons in the sign, the Moon's meetings with planets currently in that sign, and its next three visits.
What does the Moon in Aries mean?
The Moon in Aries means your feelings are quick, direct and hot. You react first and reflect later, you need independence and action to feel safe, and you recover from upsets fast. You would rather fight than sulk. The shadow is impatience and temper. The gift is emotional courage: you go towards what frightens you.
Ephemeris facts. The Moon spends 54.6 hours in Aries on each visit; its next visit begins on 23 Oct 2026. Aries is crowded at the moment, so a modern Aries Moon is rarely alone: on its late-October 2026 visit the Moon meets Neptune at 2°16' Aries, Saturn at 9°47' Aries and Chiron at 28°21' Aries within about two days. The Full Moon in Aries falls on 15 Oct 2027 at 21°59' Aries, and the New Moon in Aries on 6 Apr 2027 at 16°57' Aries.

What it is like. Aries is cardinal fire ruled by Mars. People with this Moon often need physical outlets for feeling: sport, movement, a project to attack. They say what they feel, and they can be surprised that others are still upset after they have moved on. As children they may have been the ones who needed space rather than soothing.
The gift is emotional honesty. The work is patience with slower hearts. Practical step: when you are angry, move your body for ten minutes before you speak.

How it tends to show up: tuning in to family and household undercurrents; nurturing through food, shelter or simply being there; moods that tie the present to childhood patterns; and creative work rooted in sentiment. The growth edge is to feel fully without making others responsible for your tides, and not to confuse protecting someone with controlling them.

The Moon in the houses
Your Moon house shows where you look for emotional security: the part of life that feels like home, where your moods show most and where you instinctively care for others. Unlike the sign, the house depends on your birth time. The Moon crosses all twelve houses in about a day, so an hour's error can change it.
The Moon's house combines with its phase to give a clue to the time of birth. A Full Moon rises as the Sun sets, so a Full Moon in the 1st house means a birth around sunset; a New Moon travels with the Sun, so a New Moon in the 1st means a birth around sunrise. We give the sky position for each house below; the phase is in Moon phases.
What does the Moon in the 1st house mean?
The Moon in the 1st house means your feelings are written on your face. People read your moods instantly, you respond to your surroundings, and you come across as approachable, sensitive and caring. Your sense of self changes with your emotional state. The shadow is moodiness others can't miss. The gift is emotional presence and warmth.
Where it was in the sky. The Moon in the 1st house was just below the eastern horizon, about to rise. At a New Moon that means a birth near dawn; at a Full Moon, near sunset.
What it is like. The 1st covers the body, appearance and approach to life. People with this Moon are often round-faced or expressive in tradition, adaptable and responsive, and may resemble their mother or be strongly shaped by her. They need to feel comfortable in their environment to function well.
The gift is instant empathy. The work is a stable core under changing moods. Practical step: start each day with one fixed routine that is just yours.
Why it is so visible. The 1st house is angular, so a Moon here is loud: mood, face and first impression travel together, and how you are seen feeds back into how you feel. The signs ruling the Moon and the Ascendant describe the style of that visibility. Hard aspects from Mars or Saturn tend to armour the face; softer contacts make it more open.
Shadow and integration. The pattern to watch is performing feelings to belong, or holding them in until the body forces a scene. Integration means owning your tides without making every room responsible for them. When you notice yourself changing face to match a group, ask what need you are bargaining for.
How it tends to show up: first impressions that feel intimate even with strangers; sleep, appetite and skin acting as emotional dashboards; careers in hospitality, care, performance or anything face-to-face; and a real need for recovery time after crowds or noise. A practical move: name the feeling to yourself before you broadcast it.
What does the Moon in the 2nd house mean?
The Moon in the 2nd house means security comes through money, possessions and comfort. Your mood rises and falls with your finances, you may earn through food, care, property or the public, and you hold on to things with sentimental value. Income can fluctuate like the Moon. The shadow is emotional spending. The gift is resourcefulness.
Where it was in the sky. The Moon in the 2nd house was below the eastern horizon and would rise within a few hours.
What it is like. The 2nd covers income, possessions and self-worth. People with this Moon often keep savings as a comfort blanket, enjoy good food and nice things, and value what they own for the memories attached. Their self-worth can depend on feeling provided for.
The gift is a feel for value. The work is separating self-worth from net worth. Practical step: notice what you buy when you feel low, and wait a day before buying it.
Moon in the 2nd house: common questions
- What does the Moon in the second house mean? Emotional security tied to money, food, possessions and comfort, with income that may fluctuate and an instinct for value.
What does the Moon in the 3rd house mean?
The Moon in the 3rd house means you feel through words, learning and nearby people. You need conversation, reading and short trips to feel settled, siblings or neighbours matter emotionally, and your thinking is coloured by your mood. You often write or talk about feelings. The shadow is restless worry. The gift is emotional articulacy.

Birth data from Astro-Databank (astro.com), Rodden rating AA. Houses depend on the exact birth time, so a time a few minutes out can move a planet into a neighbouring house.

The eight phases. Dane Rudhyar (The Lunation Cycle, 1967) divided the month into eight phases of 45° each, and most modern astrologers use his names. Each lasts about an eighth of the lunar month.
- New Moon (Moon 0–45° ahead of the Sun): instinctive, spontaneous, beginning things without a map.
- Crescent (45–90°): pushing past old habits; determination with some struggle.
- First quarter (90–135°): action, crisis and building; people who thrive on challenge.
- Gibbous (135–180°): refining and perfecting; analysis and self-improvement.
- Full Moon (180–225°): awareness through relationship; the need to balance opposite drives.
- Disseminating (225–270°): sharing what you know; teachers and communicators.
- Last quarter (270–315°): reorienting and questioning; letting go of what no longer fits.
- Balsamic (315–360°): endings, wisdom and preparation; a sense of a long story completing.
What is the luckiest Moon phase? Tradition favours the waxing Moon (New to Full) for beginning things and the waning Moon for finishing, cutting back and resting. Electional astrologers also avoid starting important matters in the hours around a New Moon, when the Moon is hidden by the Sun. For a birth chart, "lucky" depends on what the rest of the chart does with the phase.
What happens when the transiting Full Moon is conjunct your natal Moon? Once a year a Full Moon falls on or near your Moon, and it tends to bring feelings to the surface and a matter of home, family or emotional security to a head. A New Moon on your natal Moon is a good time for a fresh start in the same areas.
Eclipses: the Moon's dramatic moments
What do eclipses mean in astrology? Eclipses are New and Full Moons that happen close to the Moon's nodes, so the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly. Astrologers read them as turning points: solar eclipses open a new chapter, lunar eclipses close one. They matter most when they fall within a few degrees of a planet or angle in your chart.
Ephemeris facts. Our chart engine lists 913 eclipses between 1900 and 2100: 454 solar and 459 lunar. Every calendar year has between 4 and 7; the years with the maximum are 1908, 1917, 1935, 1973, 1982, 2038 and 2094. By type there were 140 total, 144 annular, 15 hybrid and 155 partial solar eclipses, and 166 total, 122 partial and 171 penumbral lunar eclipses. The last column below shows which node the Sun was near.
| Date (UT) | Eclipse | Position | Sun near the |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 Feb 2026 12:12 | Annular solar eclipse | 28°50' Aquarius | North Node |
| 3 Mar 2026 11:34 | Total lunar eclipse | 12°51' Virgo | North Node |
| 12 Aug 2026 17:46 | Total solar eclipse | 20°02' Leo | South Node |
| 28 Aug 2026 04:13 | Partial lunar eclipse | 4°51' Pisces | South Node |
| 6 Feb 2027 16:00 | Annular solar eclipse | 17°37' Aquarius | North Node |

| 2 Aug 2027 10:07 | Total solar eclipse | 9°55' Leo | South Node |
| 17 Aug 2027 07:14 | Penumbral lunar eclipse | 24°04' Aquarius | South Node |
| 12 Jan 2028 04:13 | Partial lunar eclipse | 21°33' Cancer | North Node |
| 26 Jan 2028 15:08 | Annular solar eclipse | 6°10' Aquarius | North Node |

| 31 Dec 2028 16:52 | Total lunar eclipse | 10°34' Cancer | North Node |
The 2026–2027 eclipse axis. In 2026 and 2027 the eclipses fall mainly on the Leo–Aquarius axis, with lunar eclipses in Virgo and Pisces and one in Capricorn. The total solar eclipse of 12 Aug 2026 at 20°02' Leo and the total solar eclipse of 2 Aug 2027 at 9°55' Leo are the headline events. If your Moon, Sun or rising sign is in the middle degrees of Leo or Aquarius, these are your eclipses. Our article on eclipse season explains how to work with them.
Are eclipses bad? No. They are intense, and tradition treated them as omens for rulers, but in a personal chart they mark change, often change that was overdue. The useful approach is to notice what ends around a lunar eclipse and what begins around a solar one, and not to force big decisions on the day itself.
Is the Moon ever retrograde?
Can the Moon go retrograde? No. The Moon orbits the Earth, so from here it always moves forward through the zodiac, at a varying speed but never backward. Only the planets, and points such as the lunar nodes, appear to move backward. If an app shows a "Moon retrograde", it is usually referring to something else, such as a void-of-course Moon.
What planets are retrograde right now? On 8 Oct 2026, our chart engine shows Venus, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron retrograde (6 bodies, not counting the lunar nodes, which are always retrograde in their mean form). Mercury, Mars and Jupiter are moving direct. Mid-October is a heavy retrograde season, which is why it feels slow.
Which zodiac sign will have the worst year in 2026? No Sun sign has a "worst year". What does vary is who the year's big events land on: in 2026 the eclipses hit the middle degrees of Leo and Aquarius and the early degrees of Virgo and Pisces, so people with the Moon, Sun or angles there feel 2026 most. Your timing report checks your own chart rather than your Sun sign.
Moon aspects in the birth chart
What do Moon aspects mean? An aspect links your emotional needs to another planet's function. Conjunctions fuse them, trines and sextiles let feelings and that planet's energy flow together, and squares, oppositions and quincunxes create emotional tension that pushes you to grow. Because the Moon is a luminary, we use an orb of 8° for all of them.
Where each aspect lives on this site. Aspects are covered on the hub of the faster body, and nothing is faster than the Moon, so this hub hosts every Moon aspect: with the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the North Node. The Moon makes every aspect to every planet each month, so as a transit a Moon aspect lasts only hours. As a natal aspect it describes a lifelong emotional pattern. The dates below come from our chart engine's aspect search for 2025–2028.
Sun–Moon aspects
Ephemeris facts. The Sun–Moon aspects are the phases. The conjunction is the New Moon (12 in 2026), the opposition the Full Moon (13 in 2026), and the waxing and waning squares the first and last quarters (25 squares in 2026).
Moon conjunct Sun
What does Moon conjunct Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon conjunct Sun is a New Moon birth: will and feeling share one sign, giving single-minded focus and an inner life that is hard to step back from. You start things on instinct. The conjunction fuses your emotional needs with your sense of self, so the two act as one drive that is hard to pull apart.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 10 Oct 2026 (Moon 17°22' Libra, Sun 17°22' Libra); 9 Nov 2026 (Moon 16°54' Scorpio, Sun 16°53' Scorpio); 9 Dec 2026 (Moon 16°57' Sagittarius, Sun 16°57' Sagittarius). The engine logged 49 exact Moon–Sun conjunctions between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.
Shadow and integration. With will and feeling merged, blind spots appear when a feeling is mistaken for a fact, or when self-sufficiency shuts out useful feedback. The work is to listen to the emotional body without being ruled by it. How it tends to show up: decisions made from gut certainty, difficulty separating personal needs from a public role, and a strong physical sense of when life is aligned or off.
Moon sextile Sun
What does Moon sextile Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon sextile Sun lets what you want and what you need cooperate, so you can usually find a practical way to have both. The sextile opens a working channel between your emotional needs and your sense of self that pays off when you use it on purpose.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 15 Oct 2026 (Moon 22°34' Sagittarius, Sun 22°34' Libra); 4 Nov 2026 (Moon 11°49' Virgo, Sun 11°49' Scorpio); 14 Nov 2026 (Moon 22°23' Capricorn, Sun 22°23' Scorpio). The engine logged 99 exact Moon–Sun sextiles between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.
Moon square Sun
What does Moon square Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon square Sun is a quarter-Moon birth: conscious aims and emotional habits clash, which brings restlessness and a lot of drive. It is often a sign of parents who were very different from each other. The square sets your emotional needs against your sense of self; the friction is uncomfortable and turns into drive once you work with it.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 18 Oct 2026 (Moon 25°18' Capricorn, Sun 25°18' Libra); 1 Nov 2026 (Moon 9°26' Leo, Sun 9°26' Scorpio); 17 Nov 2026 (Moon 25°08' Aquarius, Sun 25°08' Scorpio). The engine logged 99 exact Moon–Sun squares between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.
Moon trine Sun
What does Moon trine Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon trine Sun brings will and feeling into easy agreement, giving emotional steadiness and a comfortable sense of who you are. What you want and what you need point the same way, so you feel at ease with yourself. Traditional readings link the trine and sextile with good health and an easy relationship with both parents. The trine lets your emotional needs and your sense of self support each other with little effort, a gift that is easy to take for granted.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 21 Oct 2026 (Moon 27°58' Aquarius, Sun 27°58' Libra); 30 Oct 2026 (Moon 7°10' Cancer, Sun 7°09' Scorpio); 20 Nov 2026 (Moon 27°45' Pisces, Sun 27°45' Scorpio). The engine logged 99 exact Moon–Sun trines between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.
Moon opposite Sun
What does Moon opposite Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon opposite Sun is a Full Moon birth: what you want and what you need face each other, and relationships bring the split into view. The opposition pulls your emotional needs and your sense of self in opposite directions, often through other people, so the task is balance rather than picking a side.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 26 Oct 2026 (Moon 2°46' Taurus, Sun 2°46' Scorpio); 24 Nov 2026 (Moon 2°20' Gemini, Sun 2°20' Sagittarius); 24 Dec 2026 (Moon 2°14' Cancer, Sun 2°14' Capricorn). The engine logged 50 exact Moon–Sun oppositions between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.
Moon quincunx Sun
What does Moon quincunx Sun mean in a natal chart? Moon quincunx Sun makes conscious goals and emotional needs hard to reconcile, so routines, health and timing need constant adjustment. You may feel slightly out of step with yourself until you accept both sides. The quincunx links your emotional needs and your sense of self with nothing in common, so it asks for steady small adjustments rather than one fix.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 23 Oct 2026 (Moon 0°28' Aries, Sun 0°28' Scorpio); 28 Oct 2026 (Moon 4°57' Gemini, Sun 4°58' Scorpio); 22 Nov 2026 (Moon 0°07' Taurus, Sun 0°08' Sagittarius). The engine logged 99 exact Moon–Sun quincunxs between 2025 and 2028, so whether you have it depends on the hour you were born.

Moon conjunct Mercury
What does Moon conjunct Mercury mean in a natal chart? Moon conjunct Mercury makes feelings and thoughts arrive together, so you talk emotions through quickly and remember how things were said. You talk about feelings easily, remember emotionally, and your opinions are coloured by your mood; you are often a good writer or listener. The conjunction fuses your emotional needs with your mind and voice, so the two act as one drive that is hard to pull apart.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 12 Oct 2026 (Moon 14°27' Scorpio, Mercury 14°28' Scorpio); 8 Nov 2026 (Moon 7°32' Scorpio, Mercury 7°32' Scorpio); 7 Dec 2026 (Moon 2°12' Sagittarius, Mercury 2°12' Sagittarius). What it is like. You may be the person who absorbs a room and needs more rest than the culture allows; childhood may include a parent or household that was idealised, unavailable or hard to see clearly. Saturn contacts help contain the sensitivity into craft; Mars makes overwhelm irritable; Venus can romanticise the unavailable. As a transit, Neptune square your natal Moon is a long season of thin sleep, unclear bonds or spiritual hunger, while the Moon square your natal Neptune is just a mood fog for a few hours. Shadow and integration: the risk is drowning in other people's pain or using fog to avoid an ordinary feeling; the practical move is to name the feeling, then check whether it is yours before acting.

Moon–Pluto aspects

What it is like. Moon–Pluto people are loyal to the bone, perceptive and private. They can sense what others are hiding and often become therapists, investigators, crisis workers or artists who work with dark material. Relationships are all-or-nothing; jealousy and fear of abandonment are the shadow. Many describe a mother or carer who was powerful, controlling or going through her own crisis. Our article on Moon conjunct Pluto and emotional purging goes deeper.
Moon conjunct Pluto
What does Moon conjunct Pluto mean in a natal chart? Moon conjunct Pluto concentrates feeling into all-or-nothing intensity: fierce loyalty, strong instincts and a need to control what feels unsafe. You feel everything deeply, bond completely, and may have experienced power struggles, loss or a very strong mother early in life. You are not built for shallow feelings; the work is turning the urge to control into the capacity to transform. The conjunction fuses your emotional needs with your pull toward power and change, so the two act as one drive that is hard to pull apart.
Exact dates from our chart engine (UT): next 19 Oct 2026 (Moon 3°04' Aquarius, Pluto 3°04' Aquarius); 15 Nov 2026 (Moon 3°17' Aquarius, Pluto 3°17' Aquarius); 12 Dec 2026 (Moon 3°50' Aquarius, Pluto 3°50' Aquarius). Moon conjunct Pluto: common questions
- What happens when the transiting Moon is conjunct your natal Pluto? For a few hours each month, feelings run deeper and old material can surface. It is a good time for honest conversations and clearing out, not for picking fights.
- What happens when Pluto transits conjunct your natal Moon? A much bigger event: Pluto stays within a degree or two of your Moon for a year or more, usually with several exact passes. It brings deep emotional change, often around home, family or a key relationship, and ends with a stronger, freer emotional life.
- In a Moon conjunct Pluto synastry, who feels more emotionally involved? Usually the Moon person feels more exposed and emotionally "seen", while the Pluto person feels more compelled and possessive. Both feel the intensity; the Moon person tends to feel it as vulnerability, the Pluto person as attachment and a need to protect or control.
- What is a Moon conjunct Pluto woman (or man) like? The aspect works the same for anyone: emotional depth, intensity, perceptiveness and a strong need for trust. Cultural expectations change how it is expressed, not what it is.
- Does Moon conjunct Pluto affect appearance? Tradition links it with an intense gaze and a magnetic, guarded presence. That is folklore rather than measurement; the rising sign matters more for appearance.
- What is Moon conjunct Pluto in Scorpio like? Doubly intense, since Pluto co-rules Scorpio and the Moon is in fall there. It occurs only in people born while Pluto was in Scorpio; the Pluto hub lists those dates.
- Moon conjunct Pluto vs Moon square Pluto: what is the difference? The conjunction fuses feeling and intensity, so it is part of who you are. The square creates friction: emotional crises arrive from outside until you recognise the pattern as your own. The opposition plays out through other people, especially partners.

Ephemeris facts. The Moon meets the mean North Node about every 27 days, a little faster than it meets the planets because the node moves backward towards it. The next meeting is on 21 Oct 2026 at 26°38' Aquarius. See the North Node hub for the nodal axis itself.
The Moon in compatibility and synastry
How is the Moon used in compatibility? In synastry, the Moon shows whether two people feel emotionally safe and understood together. Harmonious contacts between one person's Moon and the other's Sun, Moon, Venus or Ascendant are classic signs of comfort and domestic ease; hard contacts with Mars, Saturn or Pluto bring passion, friction or intensity that needs work.
Which Moon signs are compatible? Same-element Moon signs understand each other's needs most easily: fire Moons (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) need excitement, earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) stability, air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) conversation and space, and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) emotional closeness. Fire–air and earth–water pairs are traditionally complementary. Sun conjunct Moon between two charts is one of the oldest signs of a lasting bond. A full comparison looks at every planet and angle; a compatibility reading does that.
Vedic note: the Moon (Chandra) in sidereal astrology
This site uses the tropical zodiac. Vedic (Jyotish) astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, offset on 8 Oct 2026 by 24.23° (Lahiri ayanamsa), so the Moon was at 19°27' Leo sidereal while it was in Virgo in the tropical zodiac. Your Vedic Moon sign is often one sign earlier than your Western one. In Jyotish the Moon sign (rashi) matters at least as much as the Sun sign, and daily horoscopes are read from it.
- Dignities. Chandra is exalted in Taurus (deepest at 3°), has its moolatrikona in Taurus after that, rules Cancer and is debilitated in Scorpio (deepest at 3°) (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra).
- Nakshatras. The Moon's position among the 27 lunar mansions (nakshatras) sets the birth star and the starting point of the Vimshottari dasha sequence. On 8 Oct 2026 the sidereal Moon at 19°27' Leo was in Purva Phalguni.
- Moon mahadasha lasts 10 years in the Vimshottari system, and is traditionally associated with family, home, emotional life, travel and the public.
- Yogas. Gaja Kesari yoga (Jupiter in an angle from the Moon) is linked with reputation and wisdom; Kemadruma yoga (no planets either side of the Moon) with emotional isolation, and is often cancelled by other factors (Phaladeepika).
- Houses from the Moon. Jyotish also reads the chart with the Moon's sign as the first house (Chandra lagna). Venus in the 12th from the Moon, for example, is read as comfort and pleasure sought in private, and spending on beauty and rest; the 12th is one of the better places for Venus.
Moon FAQ
What does the Moon represent in a birth chart?
Your emotions, instincts, habits and needs: how you react, what makes you feel safe, and how you nurture and want to be nurtured. It also describes the mother or main carer in traditional astrology, and the body's rhythms.
What happens when Pluto transits square your natal Moon?
Emotional pressure builds over a year or more, often through family, home or a close relationship, and old patterns are forced into the open. It is demanding but usually ends with a stronger, more honest emotional life. Pluto is in early Aquarius now (3°05' Aquarius), so the square is active for people with the Moon in the first degrees of Taurus or Scorpio.
What happens when the Moon transits over your natal Moon?
Once a month the Moon returns to its birth position, a lunar return. It lasts a few hours and tends to bring your basic needs to the surface, so it is a good day to check in with yourself. The Moon comes back to the same degree about every 27 days.
What body part does the Moon rule?
In traditional medical astrology the Moon rules the breasts, stomach, womb and the body's fluids, and it is linked with sleep and the digestive and hormonal cycles. Cancer, the Moon's sign, rules the chest and stomach.
How long does the Moon stay in each sign?
About 54.6 hours on average, between about 46.9 and 61.1 hours depending on its speed. It changes sign 160 times in 2026.
Is the Moon sign more important than the Sun sign?
Neither is more important; they do different jobs. The Sun is your direction and identity, the Moon your needs and reactions. Many people recognise themselves more in their Moon sign at home and in their Sun sign at work.
What is the Moon transit today?
On 8 Oct 2026 the Moon was at 13°41' Virgo. It moves about one sign every two to three days, so check your timing report for today's position against your own chart.
What is a blue moon in astrology?
The popular meaning is a second Full Moon in one calendar month. Our chart engine finds 82 of them between 1900 and 2100; recent and upcoming ones fall in May 2026, Dec 2028, Sep 2031, Jul 2034, Jan 2037, Mar 2037 and Oct 2039. Astrologically it is simply a Full Moon, read by its sign and house.
Sources and method
- Positions and dates: every astronomical figure on this page comes from Astrology-API.io v3, the chart engine behind natalblueprint.com, queried in October 2026 with our report settings: tropical zodiac, geocentric apparent positions, Placidus houses, mean lunar node, UT. Moon sign changes, New and Full Moons and eclipses use its mundane-events search (1900–2100); exact Moon aspect dates use its aspect-passages search (2025–2028), with the Moon–Neptune sextiles re-checked in one-year windows; quarter Moons are the exact Moon–Sun squares from the same search; today's and sidereal positions use its global-positions data. Averages, ranges and counts are simple arithmetic on those dates. The node beside each eclipse compares the Sun's position with the mean node, interpolated between the engine's node sign-change times.
- Eclipse visibility regions and magnitudes returned by the engine are not used on this page.
- Orbs: the site's published orb table (8° luminaries and angles, 6° other majors). This is our rule, not an astronomical measurement. See our method.
- We do not use outside astronomical tables on this page; where the engine does not supply a figure, we describe the point without a number.
- Dignities and rulerships: Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.17–19; William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647). Triplicity rulers: Dorotheus of Sidon, Carmen Astrologicum I.1.
- Sect and the planetary joys: Chris Brennan, Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune (2017). The eight lunar phases: Dane Rudhyar, The Lunation Cycle (1967).
- Vimshottari dasha, nakshatras and yogas: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra; Phaladeepika. Sidereal positions: Lahiri ayanamsa, from the same chart engine.
