Fixed star placements

Five hundred star-and-planet stories — how a named star colours the planet it sits with, when the contact is close enough to matter in your chart.

← All placement guides · What fixed stars mean

Betelgeuse — a major fixed star whose natal conjunctions colour planets at signature level

A tight star contact is a life theme — not a footnote

If a named star sits on a planet in your birth chart, it can colour that drive for a lifetime: the courage, the luck, the grief, the honour. We read those meetings as conjunctions within about two degrees — the same way they appear in a Natal Blueprint report. Browse the stars below, then open any pairing. When you are ready to see which of these actually live in your sky, the full reading weaves them into one story.

Signature
Within about 1° — a life-level star story
Strong
About 1–2° — a clear colour on that planet
Background
Wider than about 2° — atmosphere, not a signature
Royal stars
Regulus, Aldebaran, Antares, Fomalhaut — these four ask for an especially close meeting

Fixed stars

Each fixed star: its nature, the gift it offers, and what it asks of you.

Jupiter — End of the River

Achernar

Benefic

The gift

Honours in spiritual, philosophical or institutional matters. Natural authority in wisdom traditions — the chart often shows a teacher, priest, scholar, or elder voice that others take seriously when it is earned.

What it asks of you

Works best when genuine wisdom is sought rather than its appearance. Status without study, or piety as costume, empties the gift.

Mars-Saturn — The Scorpion (Graffias)

Acrab

The gift

Research stamina, investigative nerve, and the capacity to stay with what is ugly or hidden until it yields. Endurance in crisis; a mind that can hold poison without becoming it when the work is conscious.

What it asks of you

Classical lists load this star with malevolence and repulsion. Do not predict cruelty. Read the inversion as research that curdles into suspicion, score-settling, or treating people as specimens. Mars-Saturn must stay in service of truth, not of wound.

Moon/Mars — Light of the Pleiades (Alcyone / Seven Sisters)

Alcyone

The gift

Extraordinary creative sensitivity, capacity to voice collective grief and emotion, visionary artistic or healing power. Mystical perception and eminence through feeling what others will not name.

What it asks of you

The Pleiades are the stars of grief — traditional doctrine associates them with sorrow, loss, and eye affliction. The gift and the wound are the same: the capacity to feel deeply what others cannot. The native must integrate loss rather than be consumed by it. Do not predict blindness; read “eyes” as how the person sees, and whether grief clouds it.

Mars — Royal Star, Watcher of the East

Aldebaran

Royal star

The gift

Military or professional honour, success through direct action and integrity, courage recognised by peers, leadership in crisis.

What it asks of you

One of four Royal Stars — honour is contingent on maintaining principles under pressure. Compromise of integrity triggers the reversal of gifts.

Mars-Mercury — The Side (of Pegasus)

Algenib

The gift

Keen intellect, strong will, ambition and enthusiasm that can move a room. Mental speed fused with drive — ideas that want to become campaigns.

What it asks of you

Classical warnings cluster around bad judgment, accidents, and mental overstrain. Do not predict accidents. Read the inversion as brilliance that outruns wisdom: haste, overconfidence, or a mind that will not pause to check the map.

Saturn/Mars — Head of Medusa, Demon Star

Algol

The gift

When consciously integrated: extraordinary capacity to face what others cannot, power forged from surviving catastrophe, transformative intensity that becomes healing force.

What it asks of you

The most feared star in the tradition — beheading, violence, catastrophic loss, profound grief. Modern astrology frames it as the Medusa star: whoever confronts the unbearable and does not look away becomes formidable. this energy MUST be consciously integrated or it operates destructively. Natives with strong Algol contacts often have lives marked by profound loss that becomes the source of their greatest power. Do not predict beheading or violent death; name the Medusa work.

Mars — The Black Horse (Epsilon Ursae Majoris)

Alioth

The gift

Eminence and renown, often with a warm or romantic colour. Benevolent influence when passion is held; a capacity to be seen through love, art, or loyal heat.

What it asks of you

Classical lists warn of ruin through love affairs and self-undoing. Do not predict suicide. Read the inversion as attachment that overrules judgment — passion that becomes the whole identity, or a love story used as a cliff.

Jupiter-Saturn — String of Pearls (Belt of Orion)

Alnilam

The gift

Public honours, good fortune, and success in enterprise — a visible strand in the belt: the person can be strung into a larger pattern and recognised for it.

What it asks of you

Fortune here is not a pension. Traditional doctrine stresses sudden losses and honours that do not automatically last. Build structures (Saturn) under the luck (Jupiter); do not treat a peak as a personality.

Saturn-Venus — The Solitary One / Heart of the Hydra

Alphard

The gift

Wisdom through experience, musical and artistic gifts, strong passions. A solitary intelligence that knows the body and the beautiful; often a late-earned authority rather than a naive one.

What it asks of you

Classical lists speak of immorality, toxins, and lack of self-control. Do not predict poisoning. Read the inversion as appetite without a container — pleasure, rage, or glamour that isolates and then sickens the life that was meant to be art.

Venus-Mercury — The Bright One of the Dish (Corona Borealis)

Alphecca

The gift

Artistic ability, honour and dignity, poetic gifts. A bright point in a crown — refinement that can be recognised, and a mind that makes beauty speak.

What it asks of you

Classical warnings include imprisonment and abandonment. Do not predict jail. Read the inversion as honour that depends on a circle which can close — being shut out, frozen out, or artistically stranded when the crown is treated as owed rather than tended.

Venus — Head of Andromeda / Navel of Pegasus

Alpheratz

The gift

Love and honour, riches and harmony, independence and freedom. A capacity to move between beauty and flight — to be chained to no one while still capable of grace.

What it asks of you

Traditional reading is blunt: everything has a price. Harmony bought by self-erasure, or independence that refuses every bond, both empty the star. Freedom and relatedness must be paid for honestly.

Mars-Jupiter — The Flying Eagle

Altair

The gift

Boldness, confidence, sudden elevation, leadership, command. The eagle does not ask permission to take the thermal — this is courage that can become rank, visibility, or a decisive public move.

What it asks of you

Classical lists warn of sudden falls and accidents. Do not predict reptiles or literal falls. Read the inversion as altitude without a landing plan: ambition that climbs faster than character, or a bold strike that has no second move.

Mars/Jupiter — Royal Star, Watcher of the West, Heart of the Scorpion

Antares

Royal star

The gift

Extraordinary success in competitive or martial fields. Raw power, fearlessness, penetrating intelligence that cuts through complexity.

What it asks of you

Most volatile Royal Star. Antares requires the native not become obsessive or ruthless — the Scorpion stings itself. Self-destructive patterns, vindictiveness, or obsession will invert its gifts. Associated with violence when severely afflicted. Do not predict violence; name the obsession risk and the clean-power work.

Jupiter/Mars — The Guardian, Herdsman Star

Arcturus

Benefic

The gift

Success through self-determination and pioneering. Renown through independent venture, success in foreign lands or by forging original paths.

What it asks of you

Arcturus does not reward those who wait for permission.

Saturn — Belly of the Whale

Baten Kaitos

The gift

Transformation through trials; spiritual depth earned in the dark. The whale-belly is an initiation chamber — patience, survival, and a later capacity to midwife others through displacement.

What it asks of you

Classical lists speak of forced migration, shipwreck, isolation. Do not predict shipwreck or exile as fate. Read the inversion as being swallowed by circumstance — stuck, inland, voiceless — until the person does the Saturn work of building an inner country.

Mars-Mercury — The Amazon Star / Female Warrior

Bellatrix

The gift

Quick decision-making, advancement in competitive or martial fields, a warrior mind that can speak. Loquacity with edge — strategy that can be voiced, not only felt.

What it asks of you

Classical warnings include accidents, quarrels, eye trouble, sudden dishonour. Do not predict injury. Read the inversion as a tongue or will that wins the skirmish and loses the campaign — honour spent on being right.

Mars/Mercury — The Hunter's Shoulder

Betelgeuse

Benefic

The gift

Success through bold action and mental acuity, great enterprise, decisive capacity.

What it asks of you

Hesitation dissipates this energy — Betelgeuse rewards decisive action.

Saturn-Jupiter — The Navigator / Weight

Canopus

The gift

Pathfinding, leadership on long journeys (literal or vocational), conservative knowledge that can actually steer. A weight that holds a course when others are weather.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include drowning, violence, changeability. Do not predict drowning. Read the inversion as a navigator who loses the star — overconfident course-setting, or knowledge that will not update when the weather changes.

Mars/Mercury — The Little Goat

Capella

The gift

Love of learning, scholarly and professional advancement, honours through curiosity and skill. Military or academic elevation when the contact is strong.

What it asks of you

Capella can bring peculiar turns and changeable fortune — advancement is real, but stability is not guaranteed. Unexpected losses can accompany the gifts if the native treats learning or status as purely instrumental.

Mercury — The Mortal Twin

Castor

The gift

Distinction and refinement, intelligence and skill, success in law, language, or skilled craft. The mortal twin: brilliance that belongs to time, practice, and the body of work.

What it asks of you

Classical warnings include sudden losses and mental strain. Do not predict disability. Read the inversion as cleverness that forgets mortality — burnout, a brilliant career that has no rest, or rivalry with the immortal (Pollux) side of the psyche: image versus craft.

Venus-Mercury — Tail of the Swan (Deneb Cygni)

Deneb

The gift

Artistic ability, intelligence and ingenuity, scientific aptitude. A high, far light — creative and intellectual range that can cross disciplines.

What it asks of you

Traditional notes include lack of focus and self-undoing. Do not predict self-destruction. Read the inversion as too many thermals: talent that will not land, or beauty/intellect used to escape the life that needs building.

Saturn/Jupiter — Tail of the Sea-Goat

Deneb Algedi

Benefic

The gift

Legal and judicial success, mastery in administration, authority recognised in the native's field.

What it asks of you

Can incline toward rigidity — authority must remain flexible to be sustained.

Saturn — The Second Frog (Deneb Kaitos / Diphda)

Difda

The gift

Endurance and preparedness. A second frog: the one that waits, watches, and survives the first freeze. Practical pessimism that can become wisdom and timing.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include self-destruction, nervous illness, laziness. Do not predict illness. Read the inversion as Saturn stuck in the mud — delay as identity, inhibition that never becomes craft, or a gloom that rehearses endings instead of preparing.

Mars-Saturn — Front of the Scorpion's Head

Dschubba

The gift

The capacity to overcome crude materialism and develop spiritual or ethical spine. A head-sting: perception that can pierce pretence; reform that starts with the self.

What it asks of you

Classical lists are severe (immorality, catastrophe, malevolence). Do not predict mass disaster. Read the inversion as the sting turned outward as ideology or inward as self-punishment. Mars-Saturn here must serve discernment, not a war on the living.

Mars — The Bear (Alpha Ursae Majoris)

Dubhe

The gift

Guidance and protection, love of the sky and of systems that orient (including astrology), psychic or strategic radar. A bear that can stand between the vulnerable and the weather.

What it asks of you

Classical notes include destructiveness and arrogance. Do not predict destruction. Read the inversion as the protector who becomes the threat — certainty about the map that will not hear new stars, or power used to dominate the cubs.

Mars-Mercury — The Nose (of Pegasus)

Enif

The gift

A penetrating mind, strong will, organisational force. The nose of the flying horse: it finds the air current and commits. Good for strategy, investigation, and building a machine that actually runs.

What it asks of you

Classical lists warn of fire, war, quarrels, bad company. Do not predict fire or war. Read the inversion as will without ethics — excess, faction, or a brilliant nose for trouble that cannot stop sniffing.

Venus/Mercury — Royal Star, Watcher of the South

Fomalhaut

Royal star

The gift

Transcendent vision, idealism, fame through inspired creative or spiritual work. Deep connection to dreams and the numinous.

What it asks of you

Fomalhaut's gifts dissolve entirely if the native corrupts their ideals or pursues them through dishonesty. The spiritual vision must be kept pure — materialism or deception destroys it.

Mars-Saturn — Head of the Ram

Hamal

The gift

Independence, following one's own path, leadership that does not wait for a committee. The ram's head: initiative with weight — Aries heat given Saturn's staying power.

What it asks of you

Classical lists are harsh (violence, cruelty, crime). Do not predict crime. Read the inversion as will that treats people as obstacles — independence become isolation, or leadership that rules by fear instead of by pathfinding.

Mars-Mercury — The Saddle (of Pegasus)

Markab

The gift

Good fortune and success, honours and riches, spiritual and mental force. The saddle: a place from which the flying horse can be ridden — mind and will that can carry a life.

What it asks of you

Classical warnings include cuts, blows, fevers, accidents. Do not predict injury. Read the inversion as riding too hard — mental force that becomes combativeness, or honour that depends on staying in the fight past wisdom.

Saturn — The Nose of the Whale

Menkar

The gift

Great patience; the possibility of inheritance (literal or of a tradition). A whale-nose that can wait under pressure. Voice and timing earned slowly.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include disease, ruin, throat trouble, delays. Do not predict illness. Read “throat” as speech, swallow, and what cannot be said. The inversion is impediment as identity — waiting forever, or a voice blocked by fear until Saturn is befriended as craft, not as a gag.

Mars — The Loins of the Bear

Merak

The gift

Command and rulership, power to achieve, force of character. Loins of the bear: generative will — the capacity to push a life into form.

What it asks of you

Volatility and rashness undo the command. Force without timing becomes a wrecking ball. The gift is power; the work is a fuse long enough for the room to survive the spark.

Saturn-Jupiter — The Wonderful / Stella Maris

Mira

The gift

Piety and virtue, patience and endurance, a progressive spirit. Mira is a variable star: fortune and visibility wax and wane. The gift is staying faithful through dim phases.

What it asks of you

Classical notes include enmities, melancholy, periodic failures. Do not treat dim cycles as a verdict. Read the inversion as identifying with the fade — despair when the light is low, or piety as performance when the light is high.

Venus — The Girdle / Loins of Andromeda

Mirach

The gift

Good fortune in partnership, beauty and love, a brilliant mind when affection is the medium. Andromeda's girdle: charm that can bind a life together rather than chain it.

What it asks of you

Indulgence and voluptuous ease can replace relatedness. The inversion is beauty as anaesthesia — pleasure without vow, or a marriage that is costume. Venus here still has to choose.

Saturn-Jupiter — The Fortunate One / She Who Brings Good News

Nashira

The gift

Overcoming difficulty through integrity; success that follows a kept word; writing and the delivery of news that actually helps. Saturn-Jupiter as earned luck.

What it asks of you

Classical notes include danger from beasts and conflicts. Do not predict animals. Read the inversion as good news that is not yet true — spinning, or integrity abandoned the moment conflict arrives. The fortunate one still has to stay honest under pressure.

Mars — The Thigh (of the Bear)

Phecda

The gift

Advancement of order, organisational ability, learning and knowledge applied to groups. A thigh that can carry a civilisation-sized load — institutions, schools, governments, systems.

What it asks of you

Despotism and cruelty in power are the documented inversion. Order that forgets the human becomes a machine. Mars here must serve the city, not sit on it.

Saturn-Venus — The Pole Star / Cynosure

Polaris

The gift

Spiritual perception, guidance to others, stability and reliability. The pole: others can navigate by this person when they themselves are oriented.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include serious illness and loss. Do not predict disease. Read the inversion as a pole that has not been checked — rigidity mistaken for true north, or a guide who will not admit they are lost. Saturn-Venus must stay kind and correctable.

Mars — The Immortal Twin

Pollux

The gift

Athletic or martial skill, dignity and refinement, the immortal twin: a mythic stamina and a public face that can outlast a single fight. Craft of the body and of courage.

What it asks of you

Classical lists warn of cruelty, tyranny, ruin, malevolence. Do not predict disgrace as fate. Read the inversion as immortality-complex — winning at any cost, or dignity that needs someone beneath it. Pollux without Castor (limit, craft, mortality) becomes a bully.

Mercury-Mars — Before the Dog

Procyon

The gift

Activity and industry, rise from obscurity, success in ventures. The star that rises before Sirius: early, hungry, already working while others sleep.

What it asks of you

Hasty judgments and impulsive force undo the rise. Classical lists add injuries and animal bites as omen-speech. Do not predict dog bites. Read the inversion as snapping too soon — a career of almosts because the person cannot wait for the real Dog Star (mastery, timing).

Saturn-Venus — Head of the Serpent Bearer (Ophiuchus)

Ras Alhague

The gift

Healing ability, medical or therapeutic knowledge, a genuine desire to help. The serpent-bearer: one who can hold poison and medicine as the same study.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include poisoning, infection, misfortune through the feminine. Do not predict poison or blame women. Read the inversion as healer unhealed — taking on others' toxins, or using “help” as control. Saturn-Venus must include the healer's own body and boundaries.

Mercury-Mars — Head of the Kneeler (Hercules)

Rasalgethi

The gift

Bold determination, love of nature, a drive to seek truth under effort. The kneeler: strength that still bows — labour, ordeal, and a mind that will wrestle.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include violence, unpopular ideas, “deviant” behaviour. Do not moralise or predict crime. Read the inversion as Herculean effort without a worthy labour — extremity for its own sake, or truth-telling as a club.

Mars/Jupiter — Royal Star, Heart of the Lion

Regulus

Royal star

The gift

Exceptional honour, public elevation, leadership and recognition above peers. Most powerful career-elevating star in the tradition.

What it asks of you

Every gift of Regulus is conditional on one rule — the native must never act from revenge or vengeance. Traditional doctrine is unambiguous: if revenge is sought, the elevation reverses into a catastrophic and very public fall from grace. This is the most consistently documented fixed star warning in the entire tradition. It is not metaphor.

Jupiter-Saturn — Left Foot of Orion

Rigel

The gift

Quick rise, teaching ability, inventive nature, the possibility of lasting riches when Jupiter-Saturn cooperate. Orion's foot: knowledge that can stand on the earth — pedagogy, patents, a craft that scales.

What it asks of you

Honours can be fleeting; conspiracies and faction are the traditional political weather around a bright teacher. Do not predict plots. Read the inversion as a rise that skips the Saturn foot — brilliance without a floor, or a classroom/company that turns on its star.

Saturn-Mercury — Lucky One of the King

Sadalmelik

The gift

Success after delays; occult, symbolic, or systems intelligence; leadership that arrives when the apprenticeship is real. The king's lucky one: mind in service of a larger order.

What it asks of you

Classical lists include persecution, enmity, sudden destruction. Do not predict ruin. Read the inversion as delay becoming bitterness, or occult knowledge used to control rather than to serve. Saturn-Mercury must stay in apprenticeship longer than the ego wants.

Saturn-Mercury — Luckiest of the Lucky

Sadalsuud

The gift

Good fortune, a capacity for contentment, psychic or occult interest, fitness for public or governmental roles. Luck here is often quiet: the right room, the right decade, a mind that can administer mystery.

What it asks of you

Classical lists mention trouble through the opposite sex and drowning. Do not predict drowning or blame partners. Read the inversion as luck that dissolves in uncontained feeling — or a public role that costs the private heart. Saturn-Mercury must give the water a bank.

Mars-Mercury — The Upper Part of the Leg (Pegasus)

Scheat

The gift

Independent thought, intellectual daring, a mind that will leave the herd. Pegasus's leg: propulsion. Ideas that can actually take off when they are tethered to a body of work.

What it asks of you

Classical lists are extreme (violent death, drowning). Do not predict death or drowning. Read the inversion as intellect without a landing — isolation, all-or-nothing ideology, or a dare that has no second thought. Mars-Mercury must stay in conversation with Saturn or Venus (limit, care) or the flight becomes a fall in metaphor only: burned bridges, exile of the mind.

Jupiter/Mars — The Dog Star, brightest fixed star

Sirius

The gift

The most powerful elevation star — fame, achievement beyond normal limits, connection to the sacred and the enduring. Associated with immortal legacy.

What it asks of you

Sirius amplifies EVERYTHING it touches to an almost supernatural degree — challenges equally as much as gifts. The native with Sirius prominent lives an amplified life in every direction. Nothing is moderate.

Venus/Mars — Spike of Virgo

Spica

The gift

Pure gift — no classical caveat attached. Artistic brilliance, refinement, creative and intellectual success, protection and exceptional good fortune. Considered the most universally benefic fixed star contact.

What it asks of you

No caveat. Assess the house and planet it touches — the gift operates through those specific themes.

Venus/Mercury — The Falling Eagle

Vega

The gift

Artistic brilliance, musical talent, natural charisma, refined aesthetic sensibility. Success in the arts and all matters of beauty.

What it asks of you

Can incline toward excess — the beauty-sensitivity must be channelled constructively.

Saturn/Mars — Southern Claw of the Scorpion

Zubenelgenubi

The gift

Sharp investigative or legal mind, capacity to expose corruption, reformist drive.

What it asks of you

Associated with malice and accusation — the penetrating intelligence must be used constructively or it curdles into bitterness or vindictiveness.

Jupiter-Venus — Northern Claw

Zubeneschamali

The gift

Good fortune, high ambitions realised, a sense of lasting happiness and protection. The northern claw: the side of the scales that can weigh toward grace — Jupiter-Venus as durable wellbeing when the contact is tight.

What it asks of you

Classical lists mention psychic disturbance and ailments. Do not predict illness. Read the inversion as fortune that ungrounds — inflation, spiritual bypass, or a protected life that never develops muscle. Jupiter-Venus still needs a body and a practice.

Common questions

Placement library FAQ

What ephemeris does Natal Blueprint use for chart calculation?

Natal Blueprint calculates every chart with Swiss Ephemeris — the same high-precision astronomical engine used in professional astrology software — so planetary longitudes, house cusps, and aspects reflect observatory-grade positions rather than approximations.

What is the difference between a planet in a sign and a planet in a house?

A planet in a sign describes how that drive expresses — its style, tone, and motivation. A planet in a house shows where in life that energy becomes most visible. Both layers are required for accurate interpretation; neither replaces the other.

Why read a full natal chart instead of one placement page?

Single-placement pages isolate one factor. A full natal chart reading integrates sign, house, aspects, dignities, fixed stars, and timing so the same placement means something different in every unique chart architecture.
